  • Clayton Kershaw dealing with soreness in shoulder
    Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts told reporters on Saturday that Clayton Kershaw reported feeling soreness in his left shoulder following a bullpen session earlier in the day.

    Advice: It’s not unusual for a pitcher to feel some soreness as they’re getting stretched out after such a long layoff, but he’ll be monitored closely over the next few days. Roberts noted that it’s possible Kershaw’s next minor league rehab start — scheduled for Tuesday at Triple-A Oklahoma City — will need to be pushed back. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:34 pm
     
  • Strikes out eight in win
    Flaherty (5-4) earned the win against the White Sox on Friday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

    Advice: Flaherty threw four scoreless innings before surrendering a solo home run to Tommy Pham in the fifth. He then allowed a hit and a walk with two outs in the sixth before being pulled just shy of a quality start at 98 pitches. The home run was the first earned run Flaherty has allowed since May 23, and the pitch count was encouraging considering he was limited to 73 pitches in his last outing following a back injury. On the season, he owns a 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 108:13 K:BB over 83.1 innings and tentatively lines up to face the Phillies next week. Rotowire.com Friday, 6:30 pm
     
  • Jack Flaherty strikes out eight in win on Friday
    Jack Flaherty delivered an excellent performance in Friday night’s victory over the White Sox, racking up eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.

    Advice: The right-hander scattered five hits on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo homer off the bat of Tommy Pham in the fifth inning. Aside from that though, he was in complete control. Flaherty got 14 swings and misses on 98 pitches in the ballgame — seven of those on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. Now 5-4 on the season, the increasingly popular trade candidate will carry a sublime 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 108/13 K/BB ratio (83 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Phillies.   • Set for rehab start Tuesday
    Kershaw (shoulder) will make his second rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

    Advice: Kershaw made his first rehab outing with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five over three innings. His fastball reached 90 miles per hour, which was right around his velocity during the 2023 regular season. Kershaw will need multiple rehab outings before joining the Dodgers' rotation, which could happen around the All-Star break in mid-July. Rotowire.com Friday, 4:28 pm

    Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) will make his second minor league rehab start at Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

    Advice: The 36-year-old southpaw threw 36 pitches over three innings in his first minor league rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday. Expect that he’ll build up to around 50 pitches during Tuesday’s outing.   • Zac Gallen to throw another sim game on Monday
    Zac Gallen (hamstring) is expected to throw around 70 pitches in another simulated game on Monday.

    Advice: Assuming all goes well with that session, the expectation is that he’ll rejoin the Diamondbacks’ rotation next weekend against the Athletics. The 28-year-old hurler had posted a 3.12 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 60/15 K/BB ratio over 57 2/3 innings through his first 11 starts. Rotoworld Friday, 3:03 pm
     
  • Blows save, earns win
    Fairbanks (2-3) blew a save but earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over two innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

    Advice: Fairbanks was not needed to start the ninth due to the Rays holding a four-run lead, but a leadoff homer followed by the next two runners reaching base created a save situation. After inducing a couple of quick outs, Jose Miranda tagged Fairbanks for a game-tying homer that sent the game to extras. Once the Rays regained the lead in the 10th, Fairbanks stayed in to close out his own victory. The blown save was the second of the season for Fairbanks, who ran the gamut during the series with the Twins, suffering the loss Tuesday followed by the blown save and subsequent win Thursday.   • Zac Gallen (hamstring) to throw sim game next week
    Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week.

    Advice: The hope here is that Gallen will be ready to be activated, without requiring a minor league rehab assignment, after next week’s simulated game. The 28-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late May after suffering a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. Rotoworld Thursday, 5:46 pm
     
  • Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blows save, gets victory
    Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blew a save while allowing a run against the Twins on Thursday, but worked two innings to get the victory.

    Advice: Fairbanks entered the game with a couple of runners on and Tampa Bay holding a 6-3 cushion. He was able to get the first two outs, but then gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Miranda to blow the save. He was able to get the final three outs after the Rays scored in the 10th, however, so he gets the win. The right-hander missed a couple of days while dealing with a thumb injury, so the positive is he was back on the mound and does at least get a win. Fairbanks is still likely to see save chances going forward even with a fair share of clunkers. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:28 pm
