  • Set for rehab start Tuesday
    Kershaw (shoulder) will make his second rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

    Advice: Kershaw made his first rehab outing with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five over three innings. His fastball reached 90 miles per hour, which was right around his velocity during the 2023 regular season.   • Clayton Kershaw to make second rehab start Tuesday
    Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) will make his second minor league rehab start at Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

    Advice: The 36-year-old southpaw threw 36 pitches over three innings in his first minor league rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday. Expect that he’ll build up to around 50 pitches during Tuesday’s outing.   • Zac Gallen to throw another sim game on Monday
    Zac Gallen (hamstring) is expected to throw around 70 pitches in another simulated game on Monday.

    Advice: Assuming all goes well with that session, the expectation is that he’ll rejoin the Diamondbacks’ rotation next weekend against the Athletics. The 28-year-old hurler had posted a 3.12 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 60/15 K/BB ratio over 57 2/3 innings through his first 11 starts. Rotoworld Friday, 3:03 pm

  • Blows save, earns win
    Fairbanks (2-3) blew a save but earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over two innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

    Advice: Fairbanks was not needed to start the ninth due to the Rays holding a four-run lead, but a leadoff homer followed by the next two runners reaching base created a save situation. After inducing a couple of quick outs, Jose Miranda tagged Fairbanks for a game-tying homer that sent the game to extras. Once the Rays regained the lead in the 10th, Fairbanks stayed in to close out his own victory. The blown save was the second of the season for Fairbanks, who ran the gamut during the series with the Twins, suffering the loss Tuesday followed by the blown save and subsequent win Thursday.   • Zac Gallen (hamstring) to throw sim game next week
    Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week.

    Advice: The hope here is that Gallen will be ready to be activated, without requiring a minor league rehab assignment, after next week’s simulated game. The 28-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late May after suffering a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. Rotoworld Thursday, 5:46 pm

  • Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blows save, gets victory
    Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blew a save while allowing a run against the Twins on Thursday, but worked two innings to get the victory.

    Advice: Fairbanks entered the game with a couple of runners on and Tampa Bay holding a 6-3 cushion. He was able to get the first two outs, but then gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Miranda to blow the save. He was able to get the final three outs after the Rays scored in the 10th, however, so he gets the win. The right-hander missed a couple of days while dealing with a thumb injury, so the positive is he was back on the mound and does at least get a win.   • Another sim game coming next week
    Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week and could be reinstated from the 15-day injured list shortly thereafter, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

    Advice: After tossing 31- and 37-pitch bullpen sessions last week, Gallen advanced to facing hitters in a simulated game Tuesday. Gallen's strained right hamstring apparently responded well to the workout, but the Diamondbacks will still have him toss another sim game during the upcoming week before signing off on his return to the rotation. If all goes well during his second sim game, Gallen could return at some point during the Diamondbacks' series in Oakland next weekend. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:20 am

  • Sharp in first rehab start
    Kershaw (shoulder) completed three innings in a rehab start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

    Advice: Kershaw impressed in his first game action since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, throwing 26 of his 36 pitches for strikes and hitting 90 miles per hour -- right around his 2023 regular-season velocity -- with his fastball. The veteran left-hander began a bit shakily in giving up a one-out, first-inning triple that was cashed in for a run on a sacrifice fly, but Kershaw was in complete control thereafter, with his only walk coming on a pitch-clock violation that appeared to be intentional in order to allow him to face another batter. Kershaw is expected to log multiple additional rehab outings before potentially joining Los Angeles' rotation sometime around mid-July. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:17 pm
     
  • Remains perfect in save conversions
    Yates earned a save against the Mets on Wednesday, striking out one batter in a perfect ninth inning.

    Advice: Yates protected a two-run Texas lead in the top of the ninth frame, retiring the side in order on 16 pitches. The veteran reliever is a perfect 11-for-11 in save chances this season -- no closer in baseball has converted more saves without blowing any opportunities.
