• Willson Contreras winds up 0-for-5 against Rangers
William Contreras went 0-for-5 on Wednesday, dropping his OPS back under .800.

Advice: Contreras has not been getting results for a good month now, but things might be starting to turn around some. He had doubles on both Monday and Tuesday. Today, his four balls in play, one of which left the bat at 107.5 mph, had xBAs of .870, .480, .470 and .260. Rotoworld 47 minutes ago
  • Taking seat in series finale
Seager is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: Seager will get a breather for the day game after a night game, opening up shortstop for Josh Smith as the Rangers close out their series in Milwaukee. While starting in each of Texas' last 11 games, Seager went 7-for-42 (.167 average) with no home runs and one stolen base. Rotowire.com Today, 9:38 am

  • Goes yard twice against Yanks
Vientos went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Tuesday's 9-7 win over the Yankees.

Advice: The 24-year-old third baseman wasn't intimidated by the atmosphere in the Subway Series, or by the prospect of facing Gerrit Cole -- Vientos took the future Hall of Famer deep in the second and fourth innings to help the Mets build an early 6-0 lead. He's homered four times in the last five games, and through 19 games in June, Vientos has compiled a .275/.329/.565 slash line with six long balls, 12 RBI and 14 runs. Rotowire.com Today, 5:41 am

  • Mauled by Mets
Cole (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Yankees fell 9-7 to the Mets, surrendering six runs on seven hits -- including four home runs -- and four walks over four innings. He failed to strike out a batter.

Advice: Making his second start of the season after recovering from an elbow issue, Cole simply couldn't locate his pitches as he served up four or more long balls for only the second time in his career -- the other such start came against the Twins in June 2022. The veteran right-hander did throw 72 pitches (44 strikes) Tuesday, up from 62 in his season debut as the Yankees gradually increase his workload. Cole will look to bounce back in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in Toronto. Rotowire.com Today, 5:30 am
  • Throws sim game
Gallen (hamstring) threw 67 pitches in a simulated game Monday and will next have a bullpen session Thursday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Diamondbacks were preparing for Gallen to throw Monday, whether in a sim game or live batting practice, and decided on the sim game. He next heads to Chase Field on Thursday for a bullpen session, which will be caught by Gabriel Moreno, who is nursing a sprained left thumb. If all goes well Thursday, then Gallen could return during Arizona's series against Oakland that begins Friday. Rotowire.com Today, 4:35 am

  • Reaches thrice in win
Contreras went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored during Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Rangers.

Advice: Contreras got the Brewers on the board in the third inning, swatting a leadoff double before being driven in on a two-out single by Jackson Chourio. Tuesday's contest marked Contreras' first multi-hit game since June 16. While the catcher's power numbers are down overall, he's one stolen base away from matching his career high of six and is on pace for a career-best strikeout rate at 19.3 percent. • Cole: velocity dip versus Mets intentional
Gerrit Cole said after Tuesday’s start that he’s healthy and that he intentionally dialed back his velocity tonight after a long first inning.

Advice: Cole topped out at 98.9 mph in the first tonight, but he was often throwing 92-93 mph in the second. He did pick it up some in the end, throwing his final fastball 95.3 mph, but it was an awfully discouraging performance. It’s good to know he doesn’t think he’s hurt, though. • Mark Vientos has two home runs in win
Mark Vientos went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in a 9-7 win over the Yankees on Tuesday.

Advice: Vientos’ power is legit and he now has nine home runs on the year and six in 19 games in June. Vientos is also hitting 19-for-69 (.275) in June while taking over the Mets’ starting third base role. With the Mets offense surging and Vientos showing a better approach to go along with his plus power, he should be added in all formats where he may still be available. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:48 pm

  • Cole allows four home runs in loss
Gerrit Cole allowed six runs on seven hits in four innings in a loss to the Mets on Tuesday.

Advice: There’s a fair amount to be concerned about here. The Yankees ace walked four and struck out nobody on the day. His fastball sat 95.4 mph on the day which was down 1.3 mph from his first start. He hit 98 mph in the first inning but by the third inning, he threw only four fastballs and just one was over 94 mph. Home runs hit by Mark Vientos and Harrison Bader were on fastballs that were 91.5 and 93.2 mph. Given that Cole’s elbow injury to start the year involved some nerve issues, there’s a concern that there remains a lingering impact on Cole’s health or performance. It could also just be one bad start, but this is the second outing of his career that he did not strike out any batters and the other was on May 20, 2016, so it’s certainly a performance we want to take note of.
