    • Christopher Morel (knee) back in lineup Sunday
Christopher Morel (knee) is hitting fifth and playing third base against the Pirates.

Advice: Morel left Saturday’s game with right knee soreness, but it was purely precautionary, and he’ll get the start against the Bucs on Sunday. Morel has played relatively well in May with four homers, but his .220 average on the season is a bit of a disappointment. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:20 am

    • Back in action Sunday
Morel (knee) will start at third base and bat cleanup Sunday against the Pirates.

Advice: Morel exited in the fifth inning of Saturday's 10-9 loss to Pittsburgh with right knee soreness after he appeared to get hurt on a stolen base attempt in the top of the third. The injury looks to be a minor one, however, given that the 24-year-old is back in the lineup a day later. Morel has gone 8-for-34 with four home runs, 11 RBI and two stolen bases in May. • Goes deep in loss
Hoerner went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run, an additional run scored and two total RBI in Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Hoerner took rookie Paul Skenes deep in the fourth inning for just his second long ball of the season. He drove in another run an inning later when he walked with the bases loaded. The low power output isn't too surprising, as Hoerner had only nine home runs last year and just 10 in 2022. The shortstop has still been productive in May with a .300 batting average and .941 OPS for the month along with both homers and three stolen bases. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:35 am

    • Nico Hoerner clubs solo homer in loss to Pirates
Nico Hoerner clubbed his second home run of the season on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Cubs past the Pirates in a wild one at PNC Park.

Advice: Hoerner tagged Pirates’ phenom Paul Skenes for his 380-foot (99.5 mph EV) wall-scraping solo shot to get the Cubs on the board in the fourth inning. The 26-year-old infielder also drew the first of the Cubs’ six bases-loaded walks in the fifth inning. That’s right, six bases-loaded walks in the fifth inning. He finished the day 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored and is now hitting .272/.351/.397 with two homers, 12 RBI and four stolen bases. Rotoworld Saturday, 6:44 pm

    • Christopher Morel exits game with sore right knee
The Cubs announced that Christopher Morel was pulled from Saturday’s ballgame against the Pirates due to right knee soreness.

Advice: The severity of the injury remains unclear, but the fact that they’re calling the issue just soreness bodes well for Morel’s outlook. It’s likely that he’ll receive a day off on Sunday as a precautionary measure, but it seems plausible that he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list. Rotoworld Saturday, 6:09 pm

    • Exits with right knee injury
Morel was removed from Saturday's game versus the Pirates in the fifth inning with right knee soreness, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Morel looked to hurt the knee on a stolen base attempt in the top of the third inning. He remained in the game initially but was removed for a pinch hitter following a rain delay. The Cubs could have more on Morel's condition after the game. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:11 pm

    • Christopher Morel leaves game with apparent injury
Christopher Morel was removed from Saturday’s game against the Pirates with an apparent knee injury.

Advice: Morel appeared to injure himself while sliding into second base on a stolen base attempt in the third inning. He remained in the game for another inning defensively, but after a lengthy rain delay, he was replaced by a pinch hitter with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. Expect the Cubs to provide an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld Saturday, 5:09 pm

    • Cleared for throwing
McLain (shoulder) was cleared Friday to throw and run, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: McLain could start swinging a bat in about six weeks, which the infielder said would help determine a clearer timeline to complete his rehab. Both McLain and manager David Bell reaffirmed the goal for McLain to return this season. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:04 am

    • Homers in Friday's loss
Estrada went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Reds.

Advice: Estrada is enjoying a strong start to May, hitting safely in eight of his 10 games this month. He's gone 12-for-40 (.300) in that span, adding two homers and eight RBI. The second baseman has a .248/.276/.434 slash line with six homers, 21 RBI, 17 runs scored and one stolen base through 39 contests overall. Estrada is on pace for a career year in homers, but his overall performance is down and the Giants' weak offense hasn't helped him rack up counting stats. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:17 pm
