    • Walks four in no-decision
Elder didn't factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks against the Guardians. He struck out two.

Advice: Elder came back to earth after a dominant 2024 debut where he held the Marlins scoreless in 6.2 innings. He walked at least four batters for the ninth time in 42 career appearances but was able to keep Cleveland from notching a single extra-base hit. Elder is tentatively scheduled for a start against the Dodgers in LA on Saturday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:30 pm
    • Abner Uribe charged with five runs in relief
Abner Uribe was charged with five runs while getting two outs Sunday against the Yankees.

Advice: This inning never should have gotten started. After Uribe walked Aaron Judge, Alex Verdugo hit a routine double-play ball, except for the fact that Judge managed to deflect the relay with his oven mitt while going into second. It should have been interference, but the umpiring crew wouldn’t make the call. Uribe went on to get Giancarlo Stanton to pop out, but he just couldn’t get the third out from there. His ERA ballooned to 6.92. There’s little doubt that it will recover, but now that he’s down to third in line for saves in Milwaukee, there isn’t much reason to roster him in mixed leagues. • Elder struggles with command in no decision
Bryce Elder allowed two runs on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts in a no-decision against the Guardians on Sunday.

Advice: Elder was not particularly sharp with any of his off-speed pitches and didn’t register a single whiff with his sinker, so it was a tough pairing today. He was able to pound the strike zone with his sinker but he had just a 15 percent whiff rate overall on the day as hitters opted not to chase many of his breaking offerings. His arsenal of pitches remains underwhelming and it’s hard to start him against the Dodgers next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:57 pm
    • Makes four-inning start at Triple-A
Meyer worked four innings in his start Saturday for Triple-A Jacksonville, striking out two while giving up four earned runs on six hits and no walks.

Advice: Meyer's results in his second start with Jacksonville were less noteworthy than the fact that he pitched at all for the Triple-A club, as the organization's decision to have him take the hill this weekend suggests that he isn't viewed as a candidate to fill the rotation spot at the big-league level that recently opened up when Jesus Luzardo (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Despite Meyer's success in his three outings with the big club earlier this season (2.12 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB in 17 innings), the Marlins seem committed to keeping him on a once-a-week pitching schedule in the minors wherein he makes abbreviated starts, as the organization is keen on managing his 2024 workload coming off his August 2022 Tommy John surgery. Meyer is expected to rejoin the big-league rotation at some point in the second half of the season, though he could still operate under some restrictions with his innings or pitch counts at that time. • Notches eighth save
Phillips gave up an unearned run on one hit and struck out two Saturday to record his eighth save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: The closer's own throwing error with two outs put Davis Schneider aboard and led to Toronto's final run, but Phillips otherwise had little trouble sealing the victory. The right-hander is a perfect 8-for-8 in converting save chances to begin the season, and he's delivered a dazzling 0.77 ERA and 15:4 K:BB through 11.2 innings. Rotowire.com Saturday, 3:46 pm
    • Evan Phillips notches eighth save on Saturday
Evan Phillips allowed one run with two strikeouts in the ninth inning against the Blue Jays on Saturday to earn the save.

Advice: Phillips was summoned with a three-run lead in the ninth against Toronto. He quickly struck out the first two batters, but put a runner on with a throwing error. A base hit would bring in a run to make it a two-run game, but Phillips would hold on to record the final out and his eighth save of the season. Rotoworld Saturday, 3:03 pm
    • Rehab assignment approaching
Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Steele (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Counsell didn't say how many starts the Cubs want Steele to make in the minors, but the 28-year-old southpaw is likely in for multiple rehab outings after sitting out roughly a month due to a strained left hamstring. Assuming his assignment goes smoothly, Steele will likely return to Chicago's rotation toward the middle of May. Rotowire.com Saturday, 12:17 pm

    • Justin Steele set to make rehab start this week
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Saturday that Justin Steele (hamstring) will make a minor league rehab start this week.

Advice: Steele continues to progress towards rejoining Chicago’s starting rotation after landing on the injured list back in late March with a left hamstring strain. The 28-year-old southpaw should be ready to return in early-to-mid May. Rotoworld Saturday, 11:55 am

    • Kodai Senga (shoulder) to face hitters next week
Kodai Senga (shoulder) is scheduled to face hitters on Monday in a live batting practice session.

Advice: Senga remains unlikely to make his season debut until late May, at the earliest, but this latest development represents a massive step forward in his rehabilitation process from a shoulder injury that sent him to the injured list back in spring training. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:42 am
