    • Christian Walker swats solo homer in D-backs’ win
Christian Walker went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Wednesday, leading the Diamondbacks to a 2-1 victory over the Reds.

Advice: Walker crushed a no-doubter to left field off Reds starter Andrew Abbott in the second inning for his eighth round-tripper of the season. It was the first time he’s gone deep since a two-homer outburst back on April 30. The rock-steady 33-year-old veteran first baseman is batting .264/.372/.447 with 30 runs scored, eight homers, 28 RBI and one steal through 44 contests. Rotoworld Today, 3:07 pm

    • Placed on IL
The Cubs placed Thompson on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a viral illness, Ryan Herrera of MLB.com reports.

Advice: He will be sidelined at least until late May while he recovers from the ailment. Luke Little was recalled from Triple-A Iowa to take Thompson's spot on the Cubs' 26-man active roster and in their bullpen. Rotowire.com Today, 1:47 pm

    • Cubs place Keegan Thompson (illness) on IL
Cubs placed RHP Keegan Thompson on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 12, with a viral illness.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler caught whatever has been going around and will miss at least a couple of weeks while recovering. Thompson has posted a 4.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 19/6 K/BB ratio over 12 2/3 innings in nine appearances out of the Cubs’ bullpen this season. Luke Little was recalled from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move to take Thompson’s place in the Cubs’ bullpen. Rotoworld Today, 1:26 pm

    • Taking seat against southpaw
Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: With left-hander Garrett Crochet on the hill for Chicago, the lefty-hitting Rosario will hit the bench for the series finale. Rosario picked up starts in the corner outfield in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader, going a collective 2-for-9 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Rotowire.com Today, 9:21 am

    • Mets demote José Buttó in spite of 3.08 ERA
Mets optioned RHP José Buttó to Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: This is a surprise, but the Mets needed a starter for today (Joey Lucchesi, who is coming up from Triple-A) and the team just doesn’t have many optionable pitchers; it was just Buttó, Christian Scott and Reed Garrett. Buttó, who was 1-3 with a 3.08 ERA in seven starts, might rejoin the rotation in 10 days, though the Mets will also have Tylor Megill and David Peterson as rotation candidates then. • Headed back to minors
The Mets optioned Butto to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Advice: Butto mostly pitched well in seven starts for the Mets, but he's had trouble throwing strikes in his last five outings, walking 17 over 26 innings. With Adrian Houser and/or Tylor Megill (shoulder) possibly rejoining the rotation soon, the Mets have elected to send Butto back to Syracuse. Rotowire.com Today, 9:02 am

    • Cruises by Giants for win
Stone (4-1) got the win Tuesday against the Giants, allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out two over six innings.

Advice: Stone walked more batters than he struck out, which is never ideal, but he generated a bunch of soft contact with the only run against him coming off a base hit in the sixth inning. That's now four straight quality starts for Stone during which he's allowed one run in each. Over his last six starts, the 25-year-old boasts a 2.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB in 36 innings. The strikeouts aren't there but Stone continues to give the Dodgers excellent length and tentatively lines up to face Arizona at home to begin next week. Rotowire.com Today, 8:24 am
    • Homers as part of three-hit night
Ohtani went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two RBI in Tuesday's 10-2 win over the Giants.

Advice: Ohtani jumpstarted the scoring for the Dodgers with a towering 446-foot home run in the fourth inning. He later added on some insurance with an RBI double in the seventh. Ohtani continues to be one of the most ferocious hitters in all of baseball, as he leads with 61 hits, a .361 batting average and a 1.107 OPS while tied for second with 12 home runs. • Stuck with loss in nightcap
Parker (2-2) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over five-plus innings. He struck out three.

Advice: The rookie southpaw got little support in a 4-0 loss, with all the damage off him coming on a three-run blast by Andrew Vaughn in the third inning. Parker exited after 82 pitches (50 strikes), and after not serving up a homer in his first four big-league starts, he's been taken deep three times in his last two. He'll carry a 3.09 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB through 32 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Twins. Rotowire.com Today, 12:13 am
