    • Chris Roycroft joins Cardinals as 27th man
Chris Roycroft will serve as the Cardinals’ 27th man in Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Braves.

Advice: Roycroft has a 3.07 ERA in 12 relief appearances for the Cardinals this season. He’ll probably get into one of the two games today, especially with Matthew Liberatore due for a short start in Game 2. Rotoworld 5 minutes ago
    • Brewers DFA Joel Kuhnel after one day on roster
Brewers designated RHP Joel Kuhnel for assignment.

Advice: Kuhnel, who has a 6.30 ERA in 77 appearances since debuting with the Reds in 2019, didn’t pitch in his one day on Milwaukee’s roster. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago
    • Brewers shift Joe Ross (back) to 60-day IL
Brewers transferred RHP Joe Ross from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list with a back strain.

Advice: Ross was aiming for a quick return after going on the IL on May 21, but a setback suffered a couple of weeks ago means he’s now out through late July. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • Pushed to 60-day injured list
The Brewers transferred Ross (back) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for left-hander Dallas Keuchel, who will start Wednesday's game against the Rangers. Ross' timetable remains unchanged as a result of the move, as he had already been ruled out through the All-Star break. He had been set to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, so the righty seems to be trending in a positive direction. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

    • Moved off 40-man roster
The Brewers designated Kuhnel for assignment Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Kuhnel was on the Brewers' 40-man roster and 26-man active roster for one day and didn't make a relief appearance. He can elect free agency if he passes through waivers unclaimed. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago
    • David Daniel likely to start for Angels
Davis Daniel was scratched from his Triple-A start on Thursday and will likely join the Angels.

Advice: The Angels are down bad in the rotation at the moment, so the 27-year-old Daniel figures to start either Thursday or Friday. The right-hander has a 5.33 ERA in 14 starts for Salt Lake, but that’s largely the product of a .378 BABIP. He’s struck out 82, walked 25 and allowed just five homers in 76 innings. • Won't travel for start of road trip
Astros manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that Verlander (neck) hasn't resumed playing catch and won't accompany the team to New York for this weekend's three-game series versus the Mets, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Verlander isn't eligible to return from the 15-day injured list until Monday, but with the Astros continuing their trip in Toronto and then Minnesota next week, the right-hander's absence for the start of the road swing wouldn't seem to inspire much optimism about his chances of being ready to make a start against the Blue Jays, and perhaps even the Twins. The Astros will likely wait and see if Verlander is able to take any meaningful steps forward in his recovery from the neck issue over the next few days while he's back in Houston before determining his status for the Toronto series. • Removed from 40-man roster
The Rangers designated Rodriguez for assignment Wednesday.

Advice: Rodriguez was the add man out after the Rangers needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster. He turned in a 6.88 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 17 innings during his time in the majors this season and stands a good chance of clearing waivers. Rotowire.com Today, 9:24 am
    • Shifted to 60-day IL
The Rangers transferred Winn (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Advice: Winn was placed on the 15-day IL earlier this week with what was referred to as right shoulder discomfort, but the Rangers are now classifying the injury as a shoulder sprain. It's not clear how long he might be out, but he won't be eligible for activation until late August. Rotowire.com Today, 9:21 am
