    • Dodgers option Nick Ramirez back to Triple-A
Dodgers optioned LHP Nick Ramirez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: The left-hander lasted just one day on the big league roster this time around, giving up three runs on five hits and a pair of walks over 2 1/3 innings against the Reds on Thursday. Ricky Vanasco was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move on Friday to replace him in the Dodgers’ bullpen. Rotoworld 7 minutes ago

    • Dodgers recall Ricky Vanasco from Triple-A OKC
Dodgers recalled RHP Ricky Vanasco from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: After a bullpen game from the Dodgers on Thursday night, the team wanted to add a fresh arm to their bullpen mix on Friday and Vanasco was the choice. The 25-year-old hurler has retired all six batters that he has faced with the Dodgers this season across two perfect innings. He’ll function in middle relief. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

    • Shut down from throwing
Whitlock (oblique) reported soreness in his left elbow following his rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Whitlock performed well during his outing Wednesday, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings while striking out five batters, but his elbow may cause his return to the Red Sox to be postponed. The 27-year-old righty will be examined by team doctors in Boston on Monday, at which point more information on his status will be available. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago

    • Garrett Whitlock dealing with soreness in elbow
Garrett Whitlock will undergo additional testing on Monday after experiencing soreness in his right elbow.

Advice: Ugh. The 27-year-old hurler had looked sharp in his latest minor league rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, striking out five batters over 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. The plan was to have him rejoin the Red Sox’ rotation next week, but that’s obviously on hold for now. The Red Sox should provide an update on his status after Monday’s testing is complete, but it doesn’t sound great. Rotoworld Today, 3:08 pm

    • Faces hitters
Bachman (shoulder) threw live batting practice Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bachman began throwing off a mound May 7, and Friday marks another major step in his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. The 24-year-old righty will almost certainly require a lengthy rehab assignment before the Angels think about adding him to their rotation, though the team has not yet specified when his assignment will start. • Astros option Shawn Dubin to Triple-A on Friday
Astros optioned RHP Shawn Dubin to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Advice: The 28-year-old hurler took one for the team on Thursday night, saving a depleted bullpen by working the final three innings against the Athletics and recording his first career save. That means he wasn’t going to be available for a few days though, which means he gets sent out so the Astros can bring in a fresh arm. Dubin holds a 6.59 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and a 13/7 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings with the Astros on the season. Rotoworld Today, 3:05 pm

    • Mitch Spence to start for Athletics on Friday
Athletics’ manager Mark Kotsay told reporters that Mitch Spence will start on Friday night against the Royals in Kansas City.

Advice: Kotsay noted that for now, it’s just a one-start thing, but that if Spence pitches well he could secure a spot in the team’s rotation. The 26-year-old Rule-5 pick has registered a 4.26 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 22/7 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings in 11 appearances with the A’s this season. He threw 72 pitches against the Marlins on May 5, so he may be able to work deep enough into Friday’s outing to earn a victory if the A’s offense provides enough support. • Another rehab outing on tap
Francis (forearm) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Francis opened the rehab assignment Tuesday and covered two scoreless innings. The 28-year-old righty-hander will likely fill a long-relief role upon his return, so he could be deemed ready for activation following Sunday's outing. Rotowire.com Today, 2:19 pm

    • Requires additional rehab start
Urquidy (forearm) will make another rehab start after his upcoming outing at Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Manager Joe Espada said Urquidy is slated for four innings (60-65 pitches) in Saturday's contest, so the Astros will keep him in the minors for an additional rehab appearance in hopes of stretching him out further. The 29-year-old righty struggled in his first rehab outing, giving up three earned runs across 2.2 innings with Triple-A Sugar Land. Assuming his third start in the minors will be his last, Urquidy is in line to pitch again for the Astros in Seattle on May 29. Rotowire.com Today, 2:15 pm
