      Kimbrel pitched a clean ninth inning, striking out two to pick up a save Sunday against the Mariners.

      Advice: It appears Kimbrel has found his groove again, and he was rewarded with a save opportunity while posting his fourth consecutive appearance without allowing a hit or a walk. It was the first save since May 3 for Kimbrel, who had posted a 16.20 ERA and 4.50 WHIP over 3.1 innings in the six outings prior to this most recent four-game stretch.     • Craig Kimbrel perfect in return to closer’s role
      Getting a chance to close for the first time since May 8, Craig Kimbrel struck out two in a perfect ninth Sunday against the Mariners.

      Advice: This was truly easing him back into the closer’s role; not only did he have a three-run lead, but he was getting the bottom third of the Mariners lineup. Kimbrel has allowed just one batter to reach in four scoreless innings since his May 8 outing knocked him out of the closer’s role for a spell.       Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Diaz's bullpen role will be more "fluid" for the near future, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The 30-year-old surrendered four runs in his third blown save of the season Saturday and admitted that his confidence is down with seven runs allowed in his past three outings, so the Mets won't rely on him to be their primary closer for a bit. Diaz is still viewed as the club's closer long term but is now likely to see some lower-leverage work in an attempt to get him back on track.     • Escobar: Edwin Díaz’s role with Mets is ‘fluid’
      Mets manager Carlos Escobar told reporters that Edwin Diaz’s role with the Mets is “fluid.”

      Advice: Fluid, by definition, is not very concrete. Díaz has been horrific over the last week, as he’s seen his ERA jump up to 5.50 from the 2.13 mark he had entering the month by allowing runs in three consecutive appearances. The 30-year-old looked the part prior to these struggles and it’s worth noting he’s a hurler who missed all of 2023 thanks to a fluke injury. Díaz probably won’t be on the mound for the next save chance for the Mets, but New York is going to do everything in its power to try and get the right-hander back on track.     • Melts down in Miami
      Diaz allowed four runs on four hits while recording just one out in Saturday's loss to the Marlins.

      Advice: The Mets handed the ball to Diaz with a four-run advantage in the bottom of the ninth inning. He permitted a leadoff double and watched that run come around on a one-out single. Another single put two runners on and Josh Bell cashed in when he sent a ball 428 feet to center field for a three-run homer. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza pulled Diaz at that point. While this didn't officially go down as a blown save, it continued an ugly stretch for Diaz, who has allowed 10 runs over his last eight appearances covering 8.1 frames. When asked after the game about a potential change at closer, Mendoza didn't dismiss it, per Mike Puma of the New York Post. Diaz himself even said he'd be open to working in low-leverage spots for a while as he tries to get back on track.       Edwin Diaz allowed four runs and only recorded one out against the Marlins on Saturday.



      Advice: Diaz entered the game with a four-run lead so it wasn’t technically a save situation, but he once again couldn’t hold the lead for the Mets. It’s his third straight appearance with a blown lead. Diaz allowed an RBI single to Jazz Chisholm and a game-tying three run home run to Josh Bell. His ERA is now 5.50 on the season. Diaz has been an elite closer in the past, but we’re at the point where he might need to be removed from the closer role temporarily.

    • Surrenders two runs
      Jansen (1-1) took the loss Thursday against Tampa Bay, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts over one inning.

      Advice: Jansen took over in the top of the ninth with the game tied but fell to his first loss of the campaign. After striking out Josh Lowe to start off the inning, Jansen yielded a walk, two singles and a sacrifice fly to consecutive batters as the Rays took a 7-5 advantage and the eventual win. The outing raised the 36-year-old's ERA from 2.45 to 3.45. In 15.2 innings of work, Jansen owns a 21:10 K:BB and has yet to allow a home run. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:44 pm

      Edwin Diaz blew another save against the Phillies on Thursday.



      Advice: Three days after blowing his second save of the season, Diaz blew another save opportunity against the Phillies. Pitching with a one-run lead, Diaz walked Brandon Marsh to start the ninth inning. Marsh advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Bryson Stott. All three of Diaz’ blown saves have come in the month of May. Once an elite closer, Diaz is showing the rust of someone who missed an entire season with a knee injury.

      Diaz blew the save Thursday against Philadelphia, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts over one inning.

      Advice: Diaz inherited a one-run lead for the bottom of the ninth but was unable to convert his sixth save of 2024. Instead, Diaz walked Brandon Marsh and then allowed Marsh to reach second on a wild pitch before Bryson Stott hit an RBI single to send the game into extras.
