• Likely to start Wednesday
Montero is expected to start Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: While the Tigers haven't announced anything yet, they are listing Wednesday's starter as TBD and Montero was spotted in the clubhouse at Comerica Park on Tuesday. Mason Englert is expected to be optioned to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Montero, 23, allowed four runs in 4.1 innings in his major-league debut versus the Pirates last month. It would appear Wednesday's appearance will be another spot start for the righty and he'll head back to Toledo after the game. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 12:16 pm
  • Diagnosed with torn UCL
Sandoval told reporters Monday that he has a high-grade flexor tear and a torn UCL in his left elbow, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Sandoval was removed in the third inning of Friday's start against the Dodgers, and he was placed on the injured list Saturday. The injury is more severe than what was originally labelled a left elbow strain, and the 27-year-old southpaw will have to undergo surgery. Whether Sandoval undergoes an internal brace procedure or Tommy John has yet to be determined, but he will be out of action for at least a year. Prior to the injury, Sandoval was 2-8 over 16 starts with a 5.08 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 81:35 K:BB over 79.2 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:14 pm

  • Patrick Sandoval needs season-ending UCL surgery
Patrick Sandoval was found to have a torn UCL and will undergo season-ending surgery.

Advice: If it’s a full Tommy John, Sandoval will miss most or all of 2025. If he has the internal brace operation, it’s more likely that he’ll be able to return for the second half of the year. In spite of improved peripherals, Sandoval was 2-8 with a 5.08 ERA for the Angels this season. He had a 3.85 FIP, a 4.13 xERA and a 4.13 SIERA, but a .341 BABIP was causing big problems. • Dealing with shoulder inflammation
Astros manager Joe Espada said Sunday that an MRI on Bloss's right shoulder revealed inflammation, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 23-year-old right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday and will refrain from throwing for at least a few days until the swelling subsides. He sustained the injury in his major-league debut against the Orioles on Friday, when he was removed after giving up two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two over 3.2 innings. • Back with big club
Oakland selected Brooks' contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.

Advice: After designating Brooks for assignment June 2, the Athletics outrighted him to Las Vegas two days later upon clearing waivers. He's gone 1-1 in his two starts since returning to Triple-A, allowing five runs (three earned) on 11 hits and one walk while striking out eight over nine innings. Though he'll rejoin the big club ahead of Sunday's game against the Twins, Brooks will likely be relegated to a mop-up role out of the bullpen after turning in a 5.82 ERA in his four starts with Oakland earlier this season. • A’s bring up Aaron Brooks on Sunday from Triple-A
Athletics selected the contract of RHP Aaron Brooks from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Brooks gets the call to fortify Oakland’s bullpen ahead of Sunday’s game against the Twins with Dany Jiménez heading to the injured list. The 34-year-old journeyman righty made four starts earlier this season for the Athletics before being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster. He’s likely to operate as a swingman or multi-inning low-leverage option. Rotoworld Sunday, 9:48 am
  • Blanks KC for third win
Gray (3-3) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two hits over six scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory over the Royals. He struck out three.

Advice: Both hits were third-inning singles, but Gray shut down the rally and proceeded to retire the final 10 batters he faced before exiting. The right-hander tossed 72 pitches (51 strikes) en route to his sixth quality start of the season, but Saturday marked the first time he'd lasted at least six innings in a start since May 15. Gray will take a 3.03 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 68:19 K:BB through 71.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Baltimore. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:24 am

  • Records final outs in win
Kopech allowed one hit and walked one while striking out two across a scoreless ninth inning Saturday against the Tigers.

Advice: Kopech entered the game with a four-run lead and allowed consecutive batters to reach base with two outs. He managed to escape to turn in his second consecutive scoreless appearance, though he's still allowed eight earned runs across his last 8.1 frames. Those struggles have called Kopech's role as closer into question, though he did enter Saturday's game after John Brebbia. Rotowire.com Saturday, 11:10 pm

  • Hit hard Saturday
Berrios (6-6) allowed five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Guardians.

Advice: The Guardians aren't known for power, but they tagged Berrios with three home runs -- Bo Naylor, Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan all took the right-hander deep. With seven homers allowed over his last four starts, Berrios' trouble with the long ball is becoming a concern. He's given up 14 runs across 22.2 innings in that span and now has a 3.43 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB through 97 innings across 16 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at home in a difficult matchup versus the Yankees. Rotowire.com Saturday, 7:30 pm
