    • Aaron Nola strikes out eight in win
Aaron Nola allowed three earned runs across six innings in a win Friday against the Braves. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

Advice: Nola was fantastic in this one. His 21 swings-and-misses were the most he’s forced in a game this season and first time he’s hit that total since June 5th of last year. His vaunted knuckle curve stymied the Braves all night and Nola looked dominant despite the three runs. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:47 pm
    • Reese Olson racks up eight strikeouts in victory
Reese Olson delivered a dominant performance in Friday night’s victory over the Reds, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The right-hander piled up eight strikeouts on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. He served up a long solo homer to Spencer Steer in the fifth inning, then the Reds scratched out an unearned run while chasing Olson in the sixth inning. The 24-year-old right-hander generated 16 swings and misses on 88 pitches on the night — nine on his changeup — while posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. Now 3-8 on the season, Olson will carry a 3.22 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and an 89/28 K/BB ratio (95 innings) into his final start of the first half on Wednesday against the Guardians. • Carson Spiers allows three homers in loss Friday
Carson Spiers was hit hard in a losing effort against the Tigers on Friday night, giving up four runs on eight hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 26-year-old right-hander also issued a pair of walks on the night while striking out three. Spiers’ main problem in the contest was keeping the ball in the yard, as he served up solo homers to Parker Meadows and Colt Keith in the third inning and a two-run shot to Keith in the fifth inning. Spiers generated just four swings and misses on 89 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 20 percent. He now holds a 3.64 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and a 32/9 K/BB ratio over 42 innings in nine appearances (four starts) on the season. He’ll do battle against the Rockies on Wednesday in his final start of the first half of the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:34 pm

    • Delivers quality start
Nola (10-4) yielded three runs on five hits over six innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over Atlanta.

Advice: Nola got through three shutout frames before coughing up a two-run shot to Austin Riley in the fourth inning. Ozzie Albies then knocked a solo homer in the sixth. It was the first time that Nola gave up multiple home runs since May 31, and he allowed just three in the entire month of June. He forced a season-high 21 swinging strikes Friday, with 10 coming on the knuckle curve. Nola has delivered a quality start in nine of his last 10 outings, including in four straight. During that 10-start stretch, the veteran righty has posted a 3.34 ERA while going 6-2. Nola will carry a 3.48 ERA into his next outing, which is currently lined up to be at home against the Dodgers. • Coughs up five runs
Fried (7-4) allowed five runs on 11 hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Phillies.

Advice: Fried worked through three scoreless frames before beginning to unravel. He gave up three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth. Of the five runs he allowed, four came via a pair of two-run shots from Trea Turner. Fried had given up just three runs over his previous three starts but saw his season ERA jump from 2.91 to 3.18 after Friday's hiccup. His next start is lined up to be in Arizona. • Sonny Gray hit hard by Nationals
Sonny Gray allowed eight hits and five runs in five innings of work against the Nationals on Friday. He struck out six and walked one in a no-decision.

Advice: It was a very humid night in our nation’s capital and you could see the sweat pouring off Gray in his gray jersey. Clearly uncomfortable, he also could not find a way through lefties CJ Abrams, Jesse Winker, and Luis García Jr. They all tagged him for at least one extra-base hit while Winker and García had five combined hard-hit balls off Gray. He struggles with lefties relative to righties (.319 wOBA vs. L, .210 wOBA vs. R) mostly because his sweeper is less effective against opposite-handed batters. He tried to combat that with more curveballs, but it wasn’t enough. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:24 pm
    • Patrick Corbin solid across five innings
Patrick Corbin allowed two earned runs in five innings on Friday against the Cardinals. He struck out three and walked two in a no-decision.

Advice: Corbin moved his slider and sinker around the edges and kept the Cardinals hitters at bay despite only inducing five swings-and-misses. He is exactly who he is at this point in his career and that’s not someone that should be on your fantasy radar. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:24 pm
    • Michael Kopech slams door on Marlins on Friday
Michael Kopech slammed the door on the Marlins on Friday night, navigating a tumultuous ninth inning to preserve a one-run victory.

Advice: The 28-year-old hurler picked up his eighth save of the season for his efforts. As always, it wasn’t easy for Kopech, as he allowed a leadoff walk to Xavier Edwards to bring the tying run to the plate. He battled back though to get Vidal Brujan to bounce into a fielder’s choice and Nick Gordon on a called third strike before allowing a single to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and an RBI single to Bryan De La Cruz. Not to worry though, as he bore down to get Josh Bell on a ground ball to first base to end it. Kopech now sports a 4.58 ERA on the season to go with eight saves in 12 chances. • Drew Thorpe strikes out five in win over Marlins
Drew Thorpe was terrific in Friday night’s victory over the Marlins in Miami, surrendering just one run on three hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The rookie right-hander punched out five batters on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. He held the Marlins scoreless through the first six frames, but returned for the seventh where he allowed a one-out double to Dane Myers before turning the ball over to the bullpen — and he ultimately scored. Thorpe generated 10 swings and misses on 90 pitches on the night — nine of those on his changeup — while posting an underwhelming CSW of 21 percent. He’ll see if he can replicate this success as he carries a 3-1 record, 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and an 18/14 K/BB ratio (26 2/3 innings) into his final start of the first half on Wednesday against the Twins.
