    • Mauricio Dubón sits after 15 straight starts
Mauricio Dubón is absent from the Astros lineup Wednesday for the first time since June 7.

Advice: Dubón is a fantastic utilityman, but an everyday first baseman or left fielder he’s not and that’s rather how the Astros have been treating him lately. He’s hit .250/.276/.361 in 77 plate appearances this month, and it’d be for the best if he plays less once Kyle Tucker rejoins the Houston outfield. With Dubón sitting, Jon Singleton is making his first start since Friday. Rotoworld Today, 8:29 am

    • McCormick drives in two in win over Rockies
Chas McCormick went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Rockies.

Advice: McCormick’s two-RBI single in the first capped off a five-run inning for the Astros, who sent all nine batters to the plate against embattled starter Austin Gomber. McCormick also picked up a steal on the night, his fifth of the season, but is slashing a meager .250/.262/.575 on the month. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:04 pm

    • Lars Nootbaar (oblique) nearing rehab assignment
Lars Nootbaar (oblique) progressed to taking on-field batting practice on Tuesday.

Advice: It was Nootbaar’s first time hitting on the field since landing on the injured list back in late May with a moderate oblique strain. The 26-year-old outfielder, who has been snake-bitten by injuries this season, told reporters afterwards that he’s close to heading out on a rehab assignment. Barring something unexpected, he should be back at some point in early July. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:01 pm

    • Jo Adell goes 0-for-4, hitting .111 in June
Jo Adell finished 0-for-4 against the A’s on Monday, leaving him 7-for-63 with one homer in June.

Advice: Adell looked like maybe the AL’s most improved player over the first quarter of the season, but he’s all of the way down to .181/.242/.386 now. At least his defensive gains have remained intact. The Angels ought to keep playing him regularly, probably for the rest of the season, but it’s certainly still up for debate whether he belongs in their plans for 2025 and beyond. • Taking batting practice
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Nootbaar (oblique) took batting practice Monday and will do so again Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: If Nootbaar responds well to the consecutive days of BP, the Cardinals could clear the outfielder to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment later in the week. Though Nootbaar wouldn't seem to be a likely candidate to return from the 10-day injured list for any of the Cardinals' seven games this week, he shouldn't require a lengthy rehab assignment. Alec Burleson has been serving as the Cardinals' primary right fielder in Nootbaar's stead, but Burleson will likely settle back in at designated hitter once Nootbaar is activated. • Not starting Monday
Fraley is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Fraley will hit the bench for the second game in a row, with his absence Monday most likely being the result of the Pirates bringing southpaw Bailey Falter to the hill. Fraley owns a modest .655 OPS overall in June, but that should be enough for him to retain a regular spot in the lineup against right-handed pitching while the Reds continue to get hit hard by the injury bug. Starting outfielder TJ Friedl (hamstring) joined Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) and Matt McLain (shoulder) on the injured list Monday, while Will Benson (elbow) is day-to-day. • Playing time ticking up
McCormick went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Sunday against the Orioles.

Advice: McCormick's line isn't notable, but Sunday marked his third start in Houston's last four games against a right-handed pitcher. He had previously been losing playing time against righties to Trey Cabbage and Mauricio Dubon, but the absence of Kyle Tucker (shin) and lack of production from Jake Meyers have opened up playing time for McCormick. He's shown modest improvement in his last five starts, going 4-for-14 with a pair of homers, three RBI and five runs scored. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:12 am

    • Rehab assignment getting closer
Nootbaar (oblique) is tracking toward beginning a rehab assignment soon, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Nootbaar has been shelved since late May with a left oblique strain but appears close to being ready to play in games. The outfielder shouldn't need too many rehab games in the minors since he's been on the injured list for just over three weeks. A return before the All-Star break is likely. • Closing in on rehab assignment
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Edman (wrist) could begin a rehab assignment soon, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Edman has taken live at-bats from both sides of the plate in recent days and his surgically repaired right wrist has responded well. Since he's resided on the injured list all season, the 29-year-old would presumably require an extended minor-league rehab assignment before being activated, but he's tracking toward a return to the Cardinals before the All-Star break.
