    Advice: It's the first time Murphy has swung the bat since landing on the 10-day IL on March 30 with a Grade 1 left oblique strain. Prior to the series in Seattle, Murphy was limited to light throwing and catching work in the bullpen.     Dane Myers is starting in right field and batting cleanup for the Marlins on Friday night against the Athletics.

    Advice: The 28-year-old outfielder has impressed in his limited action since joining the Marlins, going 5-for-11 (.455) with three runs scored, five RBI and a stolen base. Friday's stint with Triple-A Reno will be Thomas' first rehab assignment, and he will play in center field over the weekend.     Paul Sewald (oblique) is expected to be activated from the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Reds.

    Advice: The 33-year-old right-hander has been shelved since the end of March due to a left oblique strain, but is finally ready to make his mark on the 2024 season.     Advice: Cora previously said Thursday that Yoshida may need to undergo surgery on his thumb after straining it during Sunday's win over the Cubs, but the 30-year-old will wait to hear from another doctor before determining the best course of action. He returned to action with a bullpen session Wednesday, and the right-hander is slated to pitch in an extended game Saturday, per Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com. If all goes well, Sewald could be back with the team as soon as Tuesday in Cincinnati.
