• Athletics activate J.D. Davis from 10-day IL
Athletics activated INF J.D. Davis from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The 31-year-old slugger has been shelved since the middle of April due to a right groin strain. He’ll return to a .196/.255/.373 slash line to go along with two homers, two RBI and a 16/3 K/BB ratio over 55 plate appearances through his first 14 ballgames. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago

  • Athletics option Nick Allen to Triple-A Las Vegas
Athletics optioned INF Nick Allen to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: The 25-year-old infielder has struggled mightily at the plate this season, slashing a cringe-inducing .171/.227/.243 with one homer, three RBI, zero stolen bases and a 19/5 K/BB ratio over his first 77 plate appearances. He’ll look to get back on track at the Triple-A level. Brett Harris had his contract selected from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move on Friday. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Brought up by Rangers
Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Advice: Rodriguez will fill the spot of Nathan Eovaldi (groin) who was placed on the 15-Day IL on Friday. In six appearances with the Rangers this season, Rodriguez garnered a 10.50 ERA and a 2.50 WHIP with three home runs allowed. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
  • Luis Garcia Jr. sits against left-hander on Friday
Luis Garcia Jr. is not in the Nationals’ starting lineup on Friday night with left-hander Yusei Kikuchi toeing the slab for the Blue Jays.

Advice: Like Garcia, fellow left-handers Jesse Winker and Eddie Rosario will get a night off with the southpaw on the hill for the Jays. Trey Lipscomb will make a rare start at second base and will bat ninth in Garcia’s place while Nick Senzel covers the hot corner for the Nationals. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Scratched Friday
Mendick was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Cardinals for unspecified reasons.

Advice: Mendick was slated to bat seventh and play third base but was moved out of the lineup for reasons yet to be disclosed. Instead, Braden Shewmake will play third and bat ninth. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

  • Joe Ross holds Cubs to one run in six innings
Joe Ross wasn’t involved in the decision after limiting the Cubs to one run over six innings in the Brewers’ 3-1 victory Friday.

Advice: Ross allowed six hits, walked none and struck out four. Both pitchers today benefitted from a typically friendly umpire and a breeze blowing in from center at Wrigley, but Christopher Morel was able to overcome the wind and homer in the sixth, accounting for the only run allowed by either starter. The Brewers rebounded in the eighth, with four singles off Adbert Alzolay producing all three of their runs. Ross remained 1-3 while lowering his ERA to 4.65. He’ll likely face the Royals next. • Trevor Megill nails down save for Brewers
Trevor Megill worked a perfect ninth with a two-run lead for a save against the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: Megill got the ninth after Joel Payamps worked a scoreless eighth today. It looks like this might be the most frequent arrangement until the Brewers get Devin Williams back. Both Megill and Payamps are still probably worth using in 12-team leagues, but of the two, we’d take our chances with Megill. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago
  • Heyden Wesneski turns in 6 1/3 scoreless innings
Hayden Wesneski shut out the Brewers for 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight in a no-decision Friday.

Advice: He allowed three hits and walked two. Wesneski gave up five balls hit at least 100 mph today, yet they all turned into outs. He has a 0.54 ERA after two starts and two relief appearances, but with Justin Steele returning and Kyle Hendricks probably right behind him, it’s unclear if he’ll get another start. • Taking dry swings
Thomas (knee) has been cleared to take dry swings, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: It's been a little over a week since Thomas was diagnosed with an MCL sprain of his left knee and he's now easing back into baseball activities. There is no timetable for the outfielder's return, but he's almost surely several weeks away. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago
