    • Goes yard in both ends of twin bill
Vierling went 4-for-8 with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Pirates.

Advice: Getting the start in center field in the opener and at third base in the second contest, Vierling was locked in at the plate no matter where he was stationed on the diamond. The 27-year-old crushed a three-run homer off Jared Jones in the fifth inning of an 8-0 win to kick off the twin bill, then launched a solo shot off Paul Skenes in the sixth inning of a 10-2 loss later in the afternoon. Vierling has four long balls among eight hits over his last three games, boosting his slash line on the season to .289/.320/.503 with seven homers, 22 runs and 28 RBI. • Matt Vierling homers again as Tigers drop nightcap
Matt Vierling homered for the fourth time in his last three games on Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Tigers past the Pirates in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Advice: After belting a pair of home runs — including a walk-off — on Sunday, and crushing a three-run shot in the first game on Wednesday, Vierling tagged Paul Skenes for a 373-foot solo shot in the sixth inning of the nightcap. He finished the afternoon 1-for-4 and is now slashing an impressive .289/.320/.503 to go along with seven homers and 28 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:29 pm

    • Jordan Westburg out Wednesday with bruised hand
Jordan Westburg is out of Wednesday’s lineup after getting hit on the right hand by a pitch Tuesday.

Advice: X-rays came back negative, and Westburg is day-to-day. The Orioles are using Ramón Urías at third base today. The 25-year-old was hit in the right hand by Red Sox start Brayan Bello in the sixth inning of Tuesday’s showdown, but managed to stay in the contest after a quick check from the Orioles’ training staff. • X-rays clean, but not in lineup
Westburg is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox due to a sore right hand, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Westburg was hit in the hand by a pitch in Tuesday's 8-3 loss. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that X-rays on Westburg's hand came back negative, but the 25-year-old infielder will benefit from two full days of rest with Baltimore off Thursday. Ramon Urias will handle third base Wednesday in Westburg's stead. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:42 pm

    • Matt Vierling hits three-run homer in rout
Matt Vierling went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI against the Pirates in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Advice: Vierling has three homers and eight runs batted in in his last two games. His season OPS is up to .811, and especially now that Kerry Carpenter is on the IL, he should be a fixture against righties and lefties alike for at least the next couple of weeks. That makes him a decent play in mixed leagues, though it hurts that he’s become a zero in steals. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:15 pm

    • Could play regularly sans Carpenter
Vierling will start in center field and bat second in the first game of Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Vierling had already started five of the Tigers' previous six games at three different positions (center field, left field and third base), but he should maintain an even more stable role in the outfield for at least the next week and a half after the Tigers placed Kerry Carpenter (back) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. The 27-year-old Vierling has been one of the Tigers' top hitters in May, slashing .290/.320/.536 with three home runs, 16 RBI and eight runs on the month heading into Wednesday's twin bill. • Notches three hits
Rengifo went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Rengifo did a good job getting on base throughout the night, and he was able to score after his singles in the first and eighth innings. The infielder has been locked in since returning from an illness May 17, going 15-for-42 (.357) over his last 10 contests. That has raised his slash line to .331/.378/.504 with four home runs, 12 stolen bases, 17 RBI and 22 runs scored across 144 plate appearances on the year. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:51 pm

    • Jordan Westburg has two hits, two RBI in loss
Jordan Westburg went 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBI in a loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: Westburg drove both runs in on a 103.7 mph single in the first inning. He now has 34 RBI to go along with a .291/.351/.508 slash line. While the 25-year-old has cooled down a bit from his torrid start to the season and is pulling the ball far less than he was in April, he continues to produce, hitting .278 with three home runs in 24 games in May. He’s proven himself as a fixture in this lineup. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:38 pm

    • Homers twice, walks off Jays
Vierling hit a walk-off home run in Sunday's 14-11 victory over Toronto, finishing 4-for-6 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored.

Advice: Vierling was the hero Sunday, putting an exclamation point on his career day with a three-run shot off Jordan Romano in the bottom of the ninth. The 27-year-old has earned a near everyday role for Detroit as a utility man, playing in 13 of Detroit's previous 15 contests, batting .214 with six RBI and two runs scored over that stretch. Vierling hit his first home run since May 1 and is now up to five longballs on the season to go with 23 RBI, 19 runs scored with a .278 average. Rotowire.com May 26, 1:23 pm
