    • Breather versus left-hander
Julien is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup with the Astros.

Advice: Julien will head to the bench as Minnesota takes on southpaw Framber Valdez on the mound Saturday. Kyle Farmer will draw the start at second base and bat seventh versus Houston. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

    • Homers in loss
Smith went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-2 loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Smith cracked his third home run of the season in the fourth inning. While he won't be a 1-for-1 replacement for the injured Josh Jung (wrist), Smith has done a credible job as the Rangers' primary third baseman. Smith is batting .279/.374/.419 with three homers, 13 doubles, one triple, 22 RBI and 26 runs over 198 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 6:13 am

    • Michael Conforto singles Friday in rehab contest
Michael Conforto (hamstring) went 1-for-3 on Friday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Conforto kicked off his rehab assignment by getting in a couple frames in left field as he works his way back from a right hamstring strain. The 31-year-old veteran was off to a strong start at the dish, with encouraging Statcast batted ball metrics to back it up, which should make him a relevant option for fantasy managers once he returns. • Pablo López strong for seven in beating Astros
Pablo López pitched seven innings of one-run ball Friday as the Twins downed the Astros 6-1.

Advice: López generated 17 missed swings tonight, 12 of them with his fastball. His peripherals would suggest that he’s had pretty awful luck this season, but he was in close to peak form tonight. The one run he allowed came on an Alex Bregman 348-foot homer that Statcast said was only a homer in four ballparks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:40 pm
    • Edouard Julien goes 0-for-2, gets lifted
Edouard Julien was lifted for a pinch-hitter after going 0-for-2 against the Astros on Friday.

Advice: A demotion to Triple-A for Julien is very much a possibility as the countermove for when Royce Lewis rejoins the Twins. He’s still very likely Minnesota’s long-term second baseman, but he’s not currently getting the job done while hitting .205/.305/.367. Willi Castro could slide to second in his place. • William Contreras picks up three hits in easy win
William Contreras picked up three hits and drove in a run in a win Friday over the White Sox.

Advice: Contreras, 26, also scored twice. The Brewers were able to reach 23 times via hit and six times on walks, and somewhat amazingly none of those hits went over the fence. Contreras is one of the best hitting backstops in baseball with a .323 average, .896 OPS, eight homers and four stolen bases across 229 at-bats. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:06 pm
    • Returns to form in win
Lopez (5-5) earned the win in Friday's 6-1 victory over Houston, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over seven innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: Lopez appeared to be in the form that led him to a seventh place finish in the 2023 AL Cy Young race. The Minnesota right-hander generated an impressive 17 whiffs en route to his six punchouts while lowering his season ERA to 4.84 in 67 innings. The lone blemish on his evening was the 348-foot solo shot Alex Bregman hit into Houston's Crawford Boxes in the fourth inning. Lopez faces a difficult test in his next start -- he's lined up to face a formidable Yankees lineup in New York next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:36 pm
    • Nursing sore elbow
Romano wasn't available for Friday's game against the Pirates due to elbow soreness, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Advice: Manager John Schneider said Romano's elbow has not recovered properly following his last outing Wednesday against the White Sox. The team is officially labeling his injury as "soreness" for now, but the Jays should have a better idea of what Romano is dealing with ahead of Saturday's contest. The 31-year-old righty has not looked like his usual self this season, posting a 6.59 ERA and 1.46 WHIP across 13.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:28 pm

    • Solid in no-decision
Suarez didn't factor into the decision Friday against Tampa Bay, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Suarez allowed a lone run in the second inning before settling in and blanking the Rays over his final three frames, allowing just one additional hit. The 34-year-old Suarez has allowed just one run over nine innings in two starts since returning to Baltimore's rotation. Overall, he's 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB across 34.1 innings this year. With John Means (elbow) and Tyler Wells (elbow) both out for the year, Suarez could be in for an extended look as a starter. He's currently in line for a road matchup with Toronto in his next outing.
