• Wraps up huge June with three hits
Merrill went 3-for-4 with a double and a run in Sunday's loss to Boston.

Advice: Merrill was the only Padre to notch multiple hits in the contest, and he scored the team's only run after belting a one-out double in the seventh inning. The rookie finished June with back-to-back three-hit games, with half of his knocks during the pair of contests going for extra bases. Merrill swung a hot bat for most of the month, and he finished June with a .320/.346/.650 slash line along with nine home runs, 20 RBI, 17 runs and two stolen bases. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:39 am
  • James Wood officially called up by Nats
Nationals recalled OF James Wood from Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: The move was announced on Friday but is now official. Wood is MLB Pipeline’s 3rd-ranked prospect, behind Jackson Holliday and Junior Caminero, who have both already had a taste of the big leagues. Wood posted a .353/.463/.595 slash line with 10 homers and 10 steals across 52 games this season at Triple-A. Of course, he’s also 21 years old and we saw Holliday struggle against MLB pitching in his first crack at the big leagues, so it’s not a given that Wood will hit the ground running. He will also face three left-handed starters in his first three games which will give fantasy managers and Nationals fans a good chance to see if there will be any platoon issues early on. The Nationals designated Eddie Rosario for assignment in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Monday, 7:36 am
  • Added to roster ahead of MLB debut
The Nationals selected Wood's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Monday.

Advice: The top prospect will make his major-league debut Monday against the Mets. Wood earned a promotion after sporting a blistering .353/.463/.595 batting line with 10 home runs, 10 stolen bases and a 42:40 K:BB over 52 games with Rochester. While Wood has experience at all three outfield positions, the Nationals plan to deploy him mainly in left field for the time being. Rotowire.com Monday, 6:18 am
  • Fills in at shortstop
Smith started at shortstop and went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's 11-2 win over Baltimore.

Advice: Smith got the start at shortstop with Corey Seager (wrist) day-to-day. Seager was hit by a pitch during Saturday's game and, although X-rays came back negative, took a seat for the series finale against the Orioles. The Rangers are off Monday, giving Seager another 24 hours of healing, before a three-game set against the Padres. Once Seager is deemed healthy enough to return to shortstop, Smith will head back to third base, where he will continue to fill in for the injured Josh Jung (wrist), who may be back in the lineup soon, though the team is still evaluating him. • Three hits Sunday
O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 11-2 loss to the Rangers.

Advice: O'Hearn got a rare start versus lefty Andrew Heaney on Sunday and came through with three base hits when most of the lineup was held in check. Heading into Sunday's game, O'Hearn was just 2-for-15 against southpaws for the season but he got the start with Ryan Mountcastle unable to go due to an illness. He's now reached safely in 13 consecutive games to close out June and is slashing .285/.347/.461 with 10 homers, 34 RBI, 31 runs and a 22:25 BB:K in 251 plate appearances this season. • Ryan O’Hearn goes 3-for-4, knocks in run
Starting against a lefty for the first time all season, Ryan O’Hearn went 3-for-4 with an RBI against the Rangers on Sunday.

Advice: We’re still not sure why O’Hearn played and Ryan Mountcastle sat tonight, but O’Hearn came through nicely, picking up all three of his hits against lefties. He had been 2-for-15 versus southpaws this season. Rotoworld Sunday, 7:15 pm

  • Blasts eighth home run
Yelich went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win against the Cubs.

Advice: Yelich took Kyle Hendricks deep in the fourth inning as part of a seven-run frame for the Brewers. The 32-year-old outfielder has underwhelmed in the power department with just eight home runs, but he has batted .321 (99th percentile) while racking up 18 steals in 19 attempts across 58 games this season. • Yelich pops eighth home run in win Sunday
Christian Yelich went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Cubs on Sunday.

Advice: The home run was Yelich’s eighth of the year. His power isn’t what it was earlier in his career. Yelich has a .166 ISO on the season and hasn’t had at least a .200 ISO since 2020. It’s always nice to see him pop a home run even if it was off Kyle Hendricks. Yelich is hitting .321 with an .885 OPS and 36 RBI this year.

  • Aaron Judge blasts 31st home run
Aaron Judge went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer on Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: 31 home runs and 82 RBI before the Fourth of July is inconceivable. It’s even more amazing when you consider Judge had just six home runs and 18 RBI on May 1st. There is no question that he’s the best power hitter in the game right now. Rotoworld Sunday, 1:39 pm
