• Doctor to doctor: Pirates recall Justin Bruihl
Pirates recalled LHP Justin Bruihl from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Bruihl returns for another stint with the Pirates in the wake of closer David Bednar landing on the injured list. The 26-year-old southpaw allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings in six relief appearances earlier this season in the big leagues. Rotoworld Today, 9:53 am
  • Pirates put closer David Bednar (oblique) on IL
Pirates placed RHP David Bednar on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 20, with a left oblique strain.

Advice: Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Sunday during a local radio interview that he hopes the injury is minor. The 29-year-old stopper was unavailable during Saturday’s game against the Rays due to left side tightness and is going to get some extra time off to rest and recover. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days. It’ll presumably be Aroldis Chapman handling the closing duties for Pittsburgh during his absence. Rotoworld Today, 9:52 am

  • Lands on IL with strained oblique
The Athletics placed Jimenez on the 15-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to June 20, due to a strained left oblique.

Advice: In his last outing June 19 against the Royals, Jimenez recorded a hold while throwing one scoreless inning, allowing just one hit. He's been one of Oakland's best options out of the bullpen since being recalled May 31, posting a 2.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over nine innings. With Jimenez headed to the IL, the Athletics selected Aaron Brooks from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 9:50 am

  • A’s put Dany Jiménez on IL with oblique strain
Athletics placed RHP Dany Jiménez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 20, with a left oblique strain.

Advice: Oblique issues can be tricky matters for pitchers, so we’re not expecting Jiménez back at any point in the near future. The 30-year-old righty has one save this season to go along with a respectable 3.04 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 21/18 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings (23 appearances). Rotoworld Today, 9:47 am

  • Hits snag, but MRI clean
Bukauskas (triceps) experienced a setback with his shoulder during his rehab appearance June 13 with Triple-A Nashville, but Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Monday that an MRI came back clean, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bukauskas has been on the injured list since April 14 with a right lat strain, with the team later reclassifying his injury as a right triceps strain. Though he was able to complete his scheduled inning in his first rehab outing with Nashville, Bukauskas reported significant discomfort in his shoulder the next day. Fortunately for Bukauskas, he doesn't look to be dealing with anything more than inflammation, and Murphy said that the right-hander will be able to resume throwing once the swelling subsides. If he's cleared to report back to Nashville shortly after he starts throwing again, Bukauskas could have a shot to return from the IL before the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 9:44 am

  • Yimi García (elbow) resumes throwing on Saturday
Yimi García (elbow) resumed throwing on Saturday.

Advice: With Jordan Romano’s throwing program shut down earlier this week due to renewed elbow soreness, it’s imperative that Toronto get García back as quickly as possible, especially if they’re going to stay in the playoff race leading up to the trade deadline. It’ll be Chad Green continuing to close for the Blue Jays, but it doesn’t seem like García is more than a few weeks, if that, away from making it back. Rotoworld Today, 9:34 am

  • Rangers option Yerry Rodríguez back to Triple-A
Rangers optioned RHP Yerry Rodríguez to Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Rodríguez heads back to the minors with veteran Max Scherzer coming off the injured list on Sunday to make his season debut. The 26-year-old righty has struggled to an inflated 6.88 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 12/11 K/BB ratio across 17 innings (12 appearances) this season in the big leagues. Rotoworld Today, 9:11 am
  • Optioned to Triple-A
The Rangers optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

Advice: Rodriguez was recalled by the big club for the third time June 18, but he did not make an appearance out of the Rangers' bullpen. Over 12 major-league appearances this season, Rodriguez has a 6.88 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 17 innings. His move to Triple-A is to make room for Max Scherzer (back/thumb), who was reinstated off the 60-day injured list ahead of his start Sunday against the Royals. Rotowire.com Today, 9:04 am
  • Strong showing in long relief
Bido did not factor into the decision in Saturday's loss to the Twins, firing five relief innings during which he allowed two runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out six and also hit a batter.

Advice: Bido was making only his second appearance with the Athletics and first of his current big-league stint with the club, which officially began Friday with a promotion from Triple-A Las Vegas. Bido's extensive experience as a starter -- both in the minors and with the Pirates last season -- came in very handy when JP Sears was chased without even completing two innings. Bido spared the rest of the bullpen while coming just an inning short of what would have qualified as the equivalent of a quality start. The right-hander is likely to be utilized in similar low-leverage, multi-inning roles during this time with the A's. Rotowire.com Today, 8:45 am
