    Anderson (2-1) pitched a perfect inning and struck out two batters to earn the win Monday over the Brewers.

    Advice: Anderson kept the deficit to two runs in the top of the seventh inning, and the Royals rallied ahead in their half of the frame. The right-hander allowed multiple runs in two of his first five outings of the season, but he's since posted nine consecutive scoreless innings. He's at a 2.77 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 8:6 K:BB through 13 innings overall, though that hasn't translated to many high-leverage looks for Anderson, who has added just one hold and no saves.   • Settles for no-decision
    Heaney allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and no walks while striking out five batters over six innings in a no-decision against Oakland on Monday.

    Advice: Heaney notched his second straight quality start, but a strong outing by opposing starter Alex Wood kept him from picking up his first win of the season. Nonetheless, Heaney was impressive in the start, inducing 15 swinging strikes and finishing without issuing a free pass for his third consecutive appearance. The left-hander failed to get through five frames in each of his first three starts of the season but has now done so in each of his subsequent four outings, and he's gone at least six frames in three straight trips to the mound.   • Alex Vesia picks up save against Marlins
    Alex Vesia pitched a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Marlins on Monday.

    Advice: Vesia came in to protect a three-run lead and the southpaw was up to the challenge. That’s the first save of the season for the 28-year-old — and just the fourth of his career — and he lowered his ERA to 1.65 with the scoreless frame.   • Starting Tuesday
    Urena will start Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

    Advice: This will mark Urena's first start of the 2024 season, though he's given the Rangers length out of the bullpen at times through the first month of the campaign. He most recently worked three frames April 27 vs. Cincinnati and three innings April 18 against Detroit, and he figures to eat up at least two or three innings Tuesday if all goes according to plan.     Diaz earned a save against the Cardinals on Monday, striking out one batter in a perfect ninth inning.

    Advice: Diaz blew his first save of the season Sunday against Tampa Bay, but he went right back to work with the Mets holding a one-run ninth-inning lead a day later. The star closer didn't falter this time, retiring all three batters he faced on 11 pitches. The save was Diaz's fifth of the campaign and his first since April 15.     Manaea (2-1) earned the win over St. Louis on Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one batter over six innings.

    Advice: Manaea didn't have his swing-and-miss stuff Monday -- he induced just four whiffs and recorded only one strikeout -- but that didn't stop him from keeping the Cardinals' bats mostly under control. The southpaw cruised through five scoreless frames before running out of gas in a three-run St. Louis sixth, but he was able to finish the inning to notch his first quality start since his first appearance of the campaign. Control issues have kept Manaea from going deep into contests this season, so it was promising to see him issue just one free pass -- his fewest of the campaign -- against the Cardinals.     Edwin Díaz hurled a perfect ninth inning on Monday against the Cardinals to collect his fifth save of the season.

    Advice: Díaz got the call to protect a narrow one-run margin in the final frame during Monday’s series opener at Busch Stadium and needed just 11 pitches (seven strikes) to slam the door. He struck out Alec Burleson before coaxing ground outs from Brendan Donovan and Masyn Winn to end the contest. He’s converted five of his six save chances this season to go along with a 2.45 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and sparkling 22/4 K/BB ratio across 14 2/3 innings (14 appearances) this season.     Sean Manaea yielded three runs over six innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

    Advice: Manaea was cruising along in this one until his final frame when the Cardinals struck for three runs on a trio of hits and a walk. It was backstops Willson Contreras and Iván Herrera that delivered run-scoring hits in the frame and wound up forcing the veteran lefty to settle for a no-decision. He finished with just one strikeout and only handed out one free pass. He’ll bring a respectable 3.31 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 31/19 K/BB ratio across 36 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a tough matchup on Sunday against the division-rival Braves.     Advice: Suarez was tasked with protecting a three-run lead upon entering the eighth inning of Monday’s series opener at Wrigley Field for his first appearance since last Wednesday. The hard-throwing 33-year-old righty struck out Yan Gomes and retired Nico Hoerner to extinguish a bases-loaded threat in the eighth before coming back out to toss a perfect final frame.
