    • Riley Greene plates three in loss to Nationals
Riley Greene went 1-for-5 with three RBI on Tuesday in the Tigers’ extra-inning loss to the Nationals.

Advice: Greene put the Tigers ahead in the fifth inning with a bases-clearing triple to right field and wound up scoring on the play thanks to a throwing error from Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. It wound up being his lone hit in five at-bats of an eventual extra-inning loss for Detroit. • Back from IL
The Red Sox activated Yoshida (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Advice: Yoshida has been sidelined since late April with a strained left thumb but recently was able to play in a couple rehab games with Triple-A Worcester, clearing the way for his return. He returns to a .275/.348/.388 slash line and will operate as Boston's primary designated hitter. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 11:56 am

    • Red Sox activate Masataka Yoshida off injured list
Red Sox activated OF Masataka Yoshida off the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Yoshida ended up missing a little more than a month with his left thumb strain. The 30-year-old should see plenty of playing time in the Boston outfield now that he’s back on the roster, likely as the designated hitter. He’ll be the DH Tuesday against the Phillies and hit fifth. To make room for Yoshida on the roster, the Red Sox designated Garrett Cooper for assignment. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:51 am

    • Taking seat against lefty
Melendez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: After starting in each of the Royals' last four games while the opposition brought right-handed starters to the hill for every contest, the lefty-hitting Melendez will exit the lineup while southpaw Carlos Rodon takes the hill for the Yankees. Melendez has logged just 33 plate appearances versus lefties this season and is slashing .156/.182/.156 in those matchups. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:28 pm

    • Scores three runs in win
Duran went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored in Sunday's 6-4 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

Advice: Duran, who had gone 14 days without a steal prior to this weekend, posted a third straight game with at least one stolen base, including two Saturday. The outfielder has put himself in position to make an impact lately, going 11-for-33 with six walks (.425 OBP), four steals and 10 runs scored over the last eight contests. • Plays second rehab game
Yoshida (thumb) was the designated hitter for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Advice: Yoshida served as Worcester's DH on back-to-back days to kick off a rehab assignment. Getting him time in the field is not as important as the plate appearances, as Yoshida is expected to be Boston's primary DH. He'll meet with the team's decision-makers Monday to evaluate his progression, per Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe. The club hopes he can be activated later this week. • Homers in extra-inning loss
Melendez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss versus the Mariners.

Advice: Melendez has just three hits over his last 10 games, but all of them have been homers. His blast Sunday tied the game at 3-3 in the ninth inning. Melendez is up to seven homers this season, but he's taken a step back overall with a .165/.228/.346 slash line through 197 plate appearances on the year. He's added 19 RBI, 17 runs scored and two stolen bases, and he's still seeing a majority of the playing time in left field despite his poor hitting. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:20 pm

    • MJ Melendez hits game-tying homer in ninth
MJ Melendez hit a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth Sunday against the Royals.

Advice: Melendez also had a two-run homer as part of a four-RBI game Friday. He’d seem to be in desperate need of the surge, though really, we’d argue that the Royals should have sent him down weeks ago. That’s not to say that he can’t turn things around in the majors — maybe he’s starting to do so — but he’s batting .165 and hasn’t had a multi-hit game since May 10. Rotoworld Sunday, 5:22 pm

    • Pops second homer
Arias went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Marlins.

Advice: Arias saw a run of playing time in late May and early June, but he's slipped back into a utility role over the last week. The infielder has gone a modest 6-for-28 (.214) over his last 10 contests, though he's recorded three extra-base hits in that span. Arias is slashing .215/.250/.339 with two homers, four stolen bases, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored, seven doubles and a triple over 128 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:36 pm
