    • Expects to swing bat soon
      Jung (wrist) said Wednesday that he expects to resume swinging a bat in a few days, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

      Advice: Jung was examined Tuesday in Phoenix by the doctor who performed his right wrist surgery back in early April. While the third baseman has had his activation from the 60-day injured list pushed back a bit due to inflammation in the wrist, he's been told that his wrist is sound structurally. Jung's return has effectively been ruled out through the weekend, but it's possible he'll rejoin the Texas lineup shortly after that.     • Looks set to join big club Thursday
      The Reds announced Wednesday that Marte (suspension) has rejoined the team after completing his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville.

      Advice: Marte won't be eligible to return from his 80-game suspension until Thursday's series opener in St. Louis, but since he's back in Cincinnati rather than sticking around in Louisville, the Reds are presumably preparing to add him back to the 26-man active roster ahead of their four-game series this weekend. The 22-year-old struggled to regain his timing at the plate during the rehab assignment, slashing .151/.151/.170 with no walks and a 28.3-percent strikeout rate over 12 games. However, after Marte posted an .822 OPS in 123 plate appearances in his first taste of the big leagues in 2023, the Reds look as though they'll allow him to iron out the kinks in the majors. He's seen action at third base, second base and shortstop during his rehab assignment and may have to settle for more of a utility role with the Reds initially until he performs well enough to warrant everyday playing time.       Smith started at third base and went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Brewers. He was also hit by a pitch.

      Advice: Smith gave the Rangers an early lead in the top of the first inning, but the offense was silenced for the last eight frames. The HBP was his second in as many games and third over the last five; he leads MLB in that category with 12. It was thought Smith's run at third base might come to end this week, but Josh Jung (wrist) experienced a setback and is not expected to return during the Rangers' road trip that ends Sunday in Baltimore.       Josh Smith went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Tuesday’s loss to the Brewers.

      Advice: Smith singled off Hoby Milner in the first inning to score Corey Seager from second, giving the Rangers an early 1-0 lead and their only run of the game. Smith was responsible for just one of five hits the Rangers had on the night, but the young third baseman has turned in a solid June, going 22-for-61 (.361) at the plate with eight extra-base hits and 10 RBI.       Rangers GM Chris Young said Tuesday that Jung (wrist) is dealing with tendon inflammation and classified a potential return on the current road trip, which runs through Sunday in Baltimore, as "ambitious," Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning Newsreports.

      Advice: The 26-year-old was shut down for the weekend after experiencing residual soreness in his surgically repaired right wrist, and he returned to Texas to be evaluated further Tuesday. Young indicated the expectation is that Jung's inflammation could subside within a few days, so the third baseman's return from the injured list may not be pushed back signficantly.       Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Jung (wrist) returned to Texas to be evaluated and "make sure everything's fine," Kennedi Landry of MLB.comreports.

      Advice: The 26-year-old was shut down over the weekend after experiencing residual soreness in his surgically repaired right wrist, and he apparently wasn't able to resume taking live batting practice Monday as hoped. Bochy didn't rule out a return before the end of the current road trip that wraps up this weekend in Baltimore, but for now, Jung's immediate outlook is up in the air as he gets checked out.       De La Cruz went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's win over Pittsburgh.

      Advice: De La Cruz scored a run after singling in the fourth inning before knocking an RBI double and scoring again in the fifth. He capped off his day with a two-run shot in the sixth.       Elly De La Cruz went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI on Monday, leading the Reds to an 11-5 blowout victory over the Pirates.

      Advice: De La Cruz served as Cincinnati’s primary offensive catalyst on Monday night at Great American Ball Park with a three-hit performance that included a pair of batted balls with exit velocities over 110 mph, including an impressive 439-foot moonshot -- his 14th round-tripper of the season -- off Pirates reliever Daulton Jefferies in the sixth inning. He also scalded a 110-mph double to right field off Pittsburgh starter Bailey Falter, which brought home a run earlier in the contest. The 22-year-old fantasy superstar has seemingly caught fire again over the last few days, batting .379 (11-for-29) with two homers and one steal over his last seven games.
