• Clayton Beeter strikes out eight Thursday at AAA
Yankees RHP prospect Clayton Beeter struck out eight and allowed two runs over five innings on Thursday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: Beeter made New York’s season-opening roster as a reliever, but only wound up making one appearance before heading back to the minors. The 25-year-old righty has notched at least five strikeouts in each of his four starts this season at the Triple-A level. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago
  • Tosses scoreless frame
Sborz threw a scoreless ninth inning in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Seattle.

Advice: Sborz, who was activated off the injured list Thursday, retired the side in order, needing just nine pitches. He was placed on the IL due to a shoulder injury April 7 after just three appearances. The back end of the bullpen has changed since then -- Kirby Yates replaced Jose Leclerc as the closer -- but Sborz should remain part of the setup group. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago

  • Homers in loss
Smith started at shortstop and went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Seattle.

Advice: Smith launched his first homer of the season in the fourth inning, which tied the game momentarily before the Mariners plated two a half-inning later. He got the start at shortstop while primary starter Corey Seager served as DH a day after he left a game with a bruised shin. If Seager is limited to DH for a bit, Smith will be the primary fill-in at short. If Seager is ready for a defensive role, then Smith will go back to sharing third base with Ezequiel Duran. Smith is batting .292/.393/.417 over 84 plate appearances, much better than his previous two MLB seasons would indicate. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

  • Hitless as DH
Seager started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Seager, who was removed from Wednesday's game with a bruised shin, was available a day later for DH duties. It's unclear if he'll be limited to DH for a stretch. If so, Josh Smith will fill in at shortstop. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago

  • Goes deep in loss
Lowe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss Seattle.

Advice: Lowe reached down for a slider low in the zone to blast his first home run of the season. The first baseman has played in all five games since being activated off the injured list last Saturday. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

  • Pirates option Ryder Ryan back to Triple-A
Pirates optioned RHP Ryder Ryan to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Ryan heads back to the minors ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Giants to allow the Pirates to bring in a fresh bullpen arm. The 28-year-old righty has held his own in eight relief appearances this season for Pittsburgh. Rotoworld 47 minutes ago

  • Marlins activate Huascar Brazoban from restricted list
Marlins activated RHP Huascar Brazoban from the restricted list.

Advice: Brazoban missed all of spring training, and the opening month of the regular season, due to visa issues. The 34-year-old righty was a lynchpin for Miami’s bullpen mix over the last two seasons, so his imminent return will certainly provide a lift. He’ll presumably be ready to roll for Friday’s series opener against the Nationals. Rotoworld 50 minutes ago
  • Salvador Perez powers Royals past Blue Jays
Salvador Perez blasted a two-run homer on Thursday, powering the Royals to a 2-1 win over the Blue Jays in a rain-shortened five-inning affair.

Advice: Perez’s two-run blast off Toronto starter José Berríos wound up being enough for Kansas City as the two teams waited out a nearly four-hour rain delay before the contest was finally called. The 33-year-old ironman is up to seven round-trippers on the season already and figures to cross the 30-homer threshold, if he can stay healthy. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago

  • Cole Ragans collects win in rain-shortened start
Cole Ragans held the Blue Jays to one run over five innings to collect his first win of the season in a rain-shortened start.

Advice: Ragans would have been able to go another inning or two if not for a nearly four-hour rain delay that eventually wound up ending the contest altogether. The 26-year-old left-hander bounced back from a dreadful outing last Saturday agains the Orioles when he allowed seven runs in just 1 2/3 innings. A run-scoring single by Ernie Clement in the fourth inning accounted for the only damage against him in this one.. Ragans has mostly looked the part so far in 2024, and he’ll have a rematch with the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Rotoworld Today, 5:17 pm
