• Back in starting lineup
Heyward (back) is starting in right field and batting eighth in Friday's game against the Reds, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Heyward appeared in just five games for the Dodgers, going 3-for-14 with two RBI before landing on the 10-day injured list April 3 due to lower-back tightness. It took about a month for the 34-year-old to return to baseball activities, and he appeared in two games with Triple-A Oklahoma City earlier in the week, going 0-for-6 with one walk and two strikeouts. • Dodgers activate Jason Heyward (back) from IL
Dodgers activated OF Jason Heyward from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: As anticipated, the 34-year-old slugger will slot right back into the Dodgers’ lineup on Friday night — starting in right field and batting eighth against Reds’ right-hander Frankie Montas. No word yet on the corresponding move to activate Heyward, but it’s definitely not Andy Pages, who is starting in center field and batting seventh for the Dodgers on Friday night. • Byron Buxton (knee) nearing activation from IL
Byron Buxton (knee) has joined the Twins in Cleveland and could be activated from the injured list as early as Saturday.

Advice: The dynamic 30-year-old outfielder played in a pair of rehab games at Triple-A St. Paul without incident and as long as he’s feeling alright on Saturday it sounds like he’ll be cleared to return. Buxton has hit .250/.300/.391 with just one home run, 11 RBI and one stolen base in 100 plate appearances with the Twins so far this season. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago

  • Joc Pederson scratched from D’Backs’ lineup Friday
Joc Pederson was scratched from the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Friday night’s series opener against the Tigers.

Advice: No word has been given yet for the late switch, but it’s possible that the Diamondbacks simply thought better of putting him out there against tough left-hander Tarik Skubal. Jake McCarthy will start in his place in right field while Randal Grichuk will function as the team’s designated hitter. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago

  • Scratched Friday
Pederson was scratched from Arizona's lineup ahead of Friday's game versus the Tigers.

Advice: It's unclear why Pederson was taken out of the lineup, but the D-backs should offer more information in the near future. In the meantime, Randal Grichuk will serve as Arizona's DH while Jake McCarthy fills the opening in right field, batting seventh. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Yordan Alvarez getting a night off on Friday
Yordan Alvarez is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s matchup against the Brewers.

Advice: It’s a rare and well-deserved night off for the 26-year-old slugger, who will still probably appear off the bench in a critical spot on Friday night. Yainer Diaz will function as the team’s designated hitter and will bat fifth against Brewers’ right-hander Freddy Peralta. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago

  • Outrighted to Charlotte
Ortega cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Ortega held the right to decline his outright assignment and elect free agency, but he will instead remain within the White Sox organization and look to turn things around in the minors. The 33-year-old went 1-for-14 during his stint with the Sox, but he has slashed .241/.378/.431 with 14 RBI through 75 plate appearances with Charlotte. Rotowire.com 46 minutes ago

  • Evan Carter (back) available off bench on Friday
Evan Carter (back) was held out of the Rangers’ starting lineup once again on Friday night, but will be available off the bench.

Advice: The 21-year-old outfielder has been sidelined since Saturday due to stiffness in his lower back. The good news is that he’s progressing and won’t require a trip to the injured list, and likely wouldn’t have been in the starting lineup anyways on Friday with left-hander Tyler Anderson taking the ball for the Angels. Expect Carter to return to the starting lineup at some point over the weekend. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago

  • Available off bench Friday
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Carter (back) is available off the bench for Friday's series opener against the Angels, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Carter hasn't played since May 10 against the Rockies due to lower-back inflammation. He received a cortisone shot Monday, and while he won't be starting Friday, he will be available out of the dugout if needed. Carter is slashing .216/.303/.416 with six doubles, five home runs and 15 RBI over 142 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Today, 2:23 pm
