The veteran catcher is 7-for-33 (.212) over 10 games in June, and he continues to see sparse playing time as backup to Adley Rutschman. • Gary Sánchez scratched Tuesday with calf tightness

  • Catching bullpen session
Moreno (thumb) will catch Zac Gallen's (hamstring) bullpen session Thursday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: A sprained left thumb forced Moreno onto the injured list Saturday, and Wednesday's bullpen session will allow him to get a feel for how his thumb feels in his glove after a few days of recovery. Assuming all goes well, there is a strong possibility that the 24-year-old backstop will be able to return from the injured list when eligible next Tuesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:00 pm

The Pirates haven't indicated how long the 24-year-old's assignment might last, though it's possible he remains in the minors upon being activated after slashing just .153/.267/.235 across 101 major-league plate appearances this season.
