• Playing catch
Eovaldi (groin) was seen playing catch ahead of Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Fantasy managers with shares of Eovaldi got another piece of positive feedback Tuesday as Eovaldi was seen playing catch in the outfield Tuesday. Barring any sort of setback, Eovaldi should be good to go once he clears the 15-day IL on May 18 without needing a rehab assignment. In the meantime, Jose Urena and Jack Leiter will be deployed as starters when necessary. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

  • Returns to relief role
Martinez made his most recent appearance as a reliever in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Orioles, striking out two and allowing no hits and one walk over two scoreless innings.

Advice: Martinez's prior two appearances came as a starter, but he moved back to the bullpen over the weekend in anticipation of Frankie Montas' (forearm) return to the rotation. With the Reds officially activating Montas from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Martinez should stick in the bullpen moving forward until one of Cincinnati's five starters succumbs to another injury. • Back in action Tuesday
Candelario (shin) is starting at third base and batting eighth Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The 30-year-old was scratched from Sunday's starting nine due to a left shin contusion but is good to go following Monday's team off day. Candelario's .634 OPS for the season remains unimpressive, but he's gone 6-for-18 with a double and a homer over his past five contests. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago
  • Reds transfer Ian Gibaut (forearm) to 60-day IL
Reds transferred RHP Ian Gibaut (forearm) to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: After being shut down for a second time during a rehab assignment, the 30-year-old now be sidelined for an extended period of time. Gibaut’s forearm injury has been an issue since spring training and he’s had multiple setbacks. There’s no timetable for when he’ll make his return to the Reds’ bullpen. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Reds option Bubba Thompson to Double-A
Reds optioned OF Bubba Thompson to Double-A Chattanooga.

Advice: Thompson struggled while with Cincinnati this season slashing just .111/.111/.167 with only two hits across his 18 plate appearances. He’ll head down to the Double-A level for the first time since 2021 to try and get going offensively. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Reds option Nick Martini to Triple-A
Reds optioned INF/OF Nick Martini to Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Martini had a strong spring training and with the injuries to Matt McLain and TJ Friedl, he was able to land a spot as a reserve outfielder to start the 2024 season. However, with the return of Friedl, Martini will head down to the minors after making 86 plate appearances with the Reds this season with three homers and 15 RBI. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Reds activate Frankie Montas from 15-day IL
Reds activated RHP Frankie Montas (forearm) from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: After two weeks on the injured list, Montas will return to the active roster and is scheduled to start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. The 31-year-old holds a 4.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP with a 14/10 K/BB ratio across 19 1/3 innings this season. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago

  • Reds activate TJ Friedl (wrist) from 10-day IL
Reds activated OF TJ Friedl (wrist) from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Fantasy managers that held onto Friedl, today is the day. The 28-year-old, who had a breakout season in 2023 with 18 homers and 66 RBI while slashing .279/.352/.467, returns to the Reds’ lineup after being on the injured list since the start of the season. He’ll be a major plus to the Reds offense and fantasy managers who have him rostered, but expectations may want to be simmered for at least the first few days as he gets back to major league speed. • Rehab moved to St. Paul
Winder (shoulder) is continuing his rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reported Tuesday.

Advice: Winder's rehab stint began with Low-A Fort Myers on April 30, and despite allowing four runs in 3.2 innings at Low-A, he'll be brought over to St. Paul to continue his recovery. Even though he's set to return in late May or early June, Winder isn't guaranteed a big-league roster spot, so he'll likely need to show better at Triple-A. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago
