      Bednar picked up the save over the Cubs on Thursday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.

      Advice: Bednar entered the game with a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and needed only eight pitches to retire the side and secure his ninth save of the season. The right-handed reliever has now converted each of his last eight save attempts and now carries a 2.57 ERA in May to go along with a 6:2 K:BB.     • Takes extra-innings loss
      Alvarado (1-2) took the loss during Thursday's 11-inning 6-5 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and no walks across one inning. He struck out two.

      Advice: Alvarado didn't take the mound until the 11th frame, when the score was knotted up at four, and ended up with the loss. He allowed a single to JD Martinez to open up the inning -- scoring designated runner Francisco Lindor -- before Harrison Bader doubled to put two runners aboard. Alvarado managed to retire the next three batters he faced; however, Martinez crossed home plate on a wild pitch to put the Mets up two.       David Bednar picked up the save against the Cubs on Thursday.

While effective, his usage was concerning given that he had pitched nearly exclusively as a traditional closer early in the season. It's unclear whether manager Kevin Cash might continue to mix and match the back end of his bullpen, but Fairbanks could lose save opportunities moving forward.       Ward went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's win over St. Louis.

      Advice: Ward jumped on a four-seamer from Nick Robertson in the bottom of the seventh and sent it into the stands in left field for a leadoff home run, giving the outfielder his first long ball this month and his eighth overall on the season.       Maikel Garcia is absent from the Royals’ starting lineup for Wednesday evening’s matchup against the Mariners.

      Advice: The 24-year-old infielder has been scuffling a bit at the plate as of late, so perhaps a day off to clear his head will do him some good. On the season, he’s slashing .239/.288/.369 with four homers, 25 RBI and 10 stolen bases through his first 43 games.       Jackson Chourio went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer on Wednesday in the Brewers’ blowout win over the Pirates.

      Advice: Chourio obliterated a 441-foot no-doubter to left field off Pirates veteran lefty Martín Pérez in the sixth inning for his fifth round-tripper of the season. The 20-year-old top prospect has undoubtedly been scuffling at the plate recently, but this was the type of moonshot that could potentially get him going again. It was his first time leaving the yard since April 20. He’s still a work in progress, but he’s shown flashes of immense five-category fantasy upside so far in his Brewers debut.
