    • Mark Canha scratched Friday with sore left hip
Mark Canha was scratched from the Tigers’ starting lineup on Friday due to soreness in his left hip.

Advice: The 35-year-old outfielder is considered day-to-day. Andy Ibanez will replace him in the team’s starting lineup at second base with Colt Keith shifting to the designated hitter spot. The Tigers are already without Kerry Carpenter (back) for a significant amount of time, so they really can’t afford to have Canha to be out for long. Rotoworld Friday, 3:18 pm

    • Scratched Friday
Canha was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Red Sox due to left hip soreness.

Advice: Canha was slated to serve as the designated hitter and bat in the cleanup spot Friday, but the 35-year-old was removed from the lineup due to the injury. Colt Keith will shift to DH and Andy Ibanez will start at second base, while Gio Urshela moves up to fourth in the batting order against Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck. • Expects to be back when eligible
O'Neill (knee) said Friday that he expects to be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Wednesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: O'Neill was given a cortisone injection to combat inflammation in his right knee and said the shot has helped a lot. It would appear he's likely to skip a rehab assignment and return when his 10 days are up. O'Neill has just a .545 OPS and 43.9 percent strikeout in May after collecting a 1.127 OPS and 24.4 percent strikeout rate in April. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:43 pm

    • IL stint expected to be brief
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that he's optimistic O'Neill's (knee) stay on the 10-day injured list will be a short one, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: O'Neill landed on the IL on Wednesday with right knee inflammation, an injury that he had been playing with for a while. While Cora didn't exactly commit to O'Neill requiring just the minimum 10-day absence, it does not appear he will be out long. He's eligible for activation June 5. Rob Refsnyder appears most likely to soak up the bulk of the playing time at designated hitter while O'Neill is out, although the Red Sox have Connor Wong at DH and Reese McGuire at catcher Thursday versus the Tigers. • Hitless in return
Friedl went 0-for-3 with two walks in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to St. Louis.

Advice: Friedl was activated off the injured list Wednesday after successfully rehabbing a thumb injury. He resumed his roles as the team's starting center fielder and leadoff hitter. It's been a season of stops and starts thus far for Friedl, who was back only six games from a wrist injury when he injured the thumb. The Reds and fantasy managers alike are hoping for his sustained presence in the lineup. Rotowire.com Thursday, 5:18 am

    • Red Sox place Tyler O’Neill (knee) on IL
Red Sox placed OF Tyler O’Neill on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 26, with right knee inflammation.

Advice: The Red Sox were hopeful that the 28-year-old slugger wouldn’t require a stint on the injured list, but they still believe that it’ll be a short stay there and he’ll be ready to return as soon as he’s eligible. Perhaps a few days off to clear his head will help his recent struggles at the dish as well. Enmanuel Valdez was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move on Wednesday. • Lands on injured list
The Red Sox placed O'Neill on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to right knee inflammation, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: O'Neill has been dealing with knee problems since leaving Sunday's game against the Brewers, and he traveled back to Boston on Tuesday to undergo imaging. The results of his tests seem to have only revealed inflammation, but his injury is still serious enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. The outfielder's move to the IL is retroactive to Sunday, so he will be eligible to return beginning June 5. Until then, Enmanuel Valdez will come up from the minors to fill the open roster spot. • Reds get TJ Friedl back from broken thumb
Reds activated OF TJ Friedl from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: It sounded like this was still at least a few days away, but the Reds are bringing Friedl back from a thumb fracture without the benefit of a rehab assignment. He’ll resume playing center field most of the time, and Jacob Hurtubise will probably head to the bench for the most part, though he might have a chance to start over Will Benson if he gets hot. • Makes return from IL
The Reds activated Friedl (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll start in center field and bat leadoff in the Reds' series finale with the Cardinals.

Advice: Friedl missed just two and a half weeks with a fractured left thumb and will make his return without going on a rehab assignment beforehand. The outfielder has been limited to just six games this season due to the thumb injury as well as the fractured wrist. He should see the bulk of the action in center field for Cincinnati now that he's been cleared for game action. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:45 am
