• Exceptional in rehab start
Whitlock (oblique) struck out five and allowed two hits and one walk over 4.2 scoreless innings Wednesday in his rehab start with Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Whitlock pumped in 40 of his 61 pitches for strikes and induced 12 swings and misses, looking as strong as ever while pitching in a game for the first time since April 16. Even though he didn't get fully stretched out for a traditional starter's workload Wednesday, Whitlock could return from the 15-day injured list to make his next appearance out of the Red Sox rotation. If the Red Sox decide he won't require an additional rehab appearance, Whitlock would likely start with the big club either Monday or Tuesday at Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Today, 10:44 am

  • Option to start Thursday
Martinez is an option to start Thursday's game against the Dodgers in place of Nick Lodolo (groin), Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Martinez would be pitching on three days' rest after he had a 1.1-inning relief appearance on May 12. He remains relatively stretched out, though, having made four starts for the Reds this season, with the last one coming on April 30. Martinez wouldn't have a full workload at his disposal Thursday, but he looks to be the favorite to take the ball for the Reds that day. Rotowire.com Today, 10:33 am
  • Rejoins bullpen
The Reds recalled Moll from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Advice: Moll has made five scoreless appearances during his time with the big club this season. He will provide manager David Bell with another left-hander in the bullpen. Rotowire.com Today, 10:12 am
  • Lands on IL with groin strain
The Reds placed Lodolo on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left groin strain.

Advice: It's not clear whether Lodolo was injured during his most recent start Saturday versus the Giants or sometime since then, but either way, he's going to be on the shelf at least for the next couple weeks. The left-hander has been excellent this season, posting a 3.34 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB through 35 innings over six starts. Nick Martinez would appear to be the most likely candidate to fill Lodolo's spot in the rotation, which comes up again Thursday versus the Dodgers. Rotowire.com Today, 10:11 am

  • Reds recall lefty reliever Sam Moll
Reds recalled LHP Sam Moll from Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Moll is back where he belongs. He had a 0.00 ERA in five innings before a roster crunch got him sent down to Triple-A. Rotoworld Today, 10:09 am
  • Nick Lodolo goes on injured list with groin strain
Reds placed LHP Nick Lodolo on the 15-day injured list with a strained left groin.

Advice: Lodolo still hasn’t had any arm problems as a major leaguer, but the rest of his body keeps betraying him. The 26-year-old was looking like a potential All-Star with his 3.34 ERA and 43/9 K/BB ratio in six starts since returning from his last round of problems with his left leg. Nick Martinez could return to the rotation in his place. Rotoworld Today, 10:07 am

  • Tosses bullpen Monday
Musgrove (elbow) threw a "light" bullpen session Monday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Musgrove completed his first bullpen session since going on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation in early May. The right-hander is expected to throw another side session Wednesday, and if that goes well, he could return to the Padres rotation without needing a rehab stint. Musgrove is tracking toward making his next start during San Diego's series in Atlanta during the upcoming weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 10:03 am

  • Officially added to roster
The Pirates recalled Mlodzinski from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

Advice: Mlodzinsk has posted an unappealing 6.43 ERA and 13:7 K:BB over 14 innings this season with Indianapolis. However, he fared well with the Pirates in 2023 with a 2.25 ERA in 35 outings and the club will hope to get something closer to that version during this stint. Rotowire.com Today, 10:02 am
  • Optioned to Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Priester to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

Advice: With Paul Skenes in the fold and Bailey Falter pitching well enough to keep his rotation spot, Priester becomes the odd man out. He holds a 4.33 ERA and 17:10 K:BB over 27 innings covering five starts with the big club this season. Priester will join the Indianapolis rotation and likely will be the first to be called upon when the Pirates need a starter. Rotowire.com Today, 9:59 am
