    • Dealing with back tightness
Carter was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with lower-back tightness, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 21-year-old missed some time in mid-May due to a back issue, and it apparently remains bothersome as the month comes to a close. Carter is without a hit in his past 20 at-bats, and the injury could help explain some of those struggles. It's unclear how long the young outfielder is expected to be sidelined, but the organization will likely want him to get some at-bats in the minors before he rejoins the big club. • Back from injured list
The Rangers activated Langford (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 22-year-old has been on the shelf more than three weeks due to a hamstring injury but will rejoin the Rangers after a three-game rehab stint with Triple-A Round Rock. Langford was struggling offensively before going on the injured list, as he was in the midst of a 3-for-28 slump. Evan Carter (back) was moved to the 10-day IL in a corresponding move. • Top prospect Wyatt Langford returns Tuesday
Rangers activated OF Wyatt Langford from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Langford will make his highly-anticipated return for Tuesday’s showdown against Arizona on the heels of a three-week absence recovering from a right hamstring strain. The 22-year-old top prospect hasn’t exactly set the fantasy landscape ablaze following a sizzling-hot spring training performance, batting .224/.295/.293 with one homer, 11 RBI and one steal in 129 plate appearances over 31 contests. Given his immense raw talent, it certainly feels like only a matter of time before he heats up. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:13 pm

    • Slumping Evan Carter hits IL with back tightness
Rangers placed OF Evan Carter on the 10-day injured list with a back sprain.

Advice: Carter will ostensibly swap places with fellow top prospect Wyatt Langford as he’ll get some extra time off in an effort to reset mentally after batting just .165 (15-for-91) with three homers and one steal over his last 30 contests. The 21-year-old top prospect hits the shelf in the midst of an 0-for-20 hitless streak at the dish dating back to May 10. It’s far too early to be concerned long-term with Carter, but this season has certainly been an unexpected speed bump following last year’s stellar late-season debut and playoff performance. • Headed to injured list
The Rangers will place Carter (undisclosed) on the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Carter has missed some time this month with a back issue, although it's unclear whether that's the injury that's sending him to the IL. The young outfielder is hitless over his last nine contests and has struggled mightily so far this season, slashing just .188/.272/.361. It's not clear how long Carter might be sidelined. • Throwing off mound
Scherzer (back/arm) will throw a "full" bullpen session Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Scherzer will throw off a mound for the first time since being shut down in early May, an encouraging sign for the 38-year-old, who's rehabbing a nerve problem in his throwing arm and an offseason back surgery. Prior to the setback, Scherzer threw 52 pitches April 25 in a rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:57 pm

    • Max Scherzer (thumb) throwing bullpen Wednesday
Max Scherzer (thumb) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Advice: There’s a bit of lingering uncertainty regarding Scherzer’s potential return timeline after he was abruptly pulled off a minor league rehab assignment earlier this month to address a nerve issue leading to issues with his right thumb. The hope is that the 39-year-old veteran righty will be ready for rehab starts at some point in June. There is no official timetable for his return at this juncture. • Set for another rehab outing
Miller (shoulder) will make his next minor-league rehab start Friday or Saturday and is scheduled to throw about four innings, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Miller allowed three runs and threw 55 pitches over three frames in his first rehab outing Sunday with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, and it's no surprise he'll require at least one more appearance in the minors before rejoining the Dodgers. The 24-year-old could be back in the big-league rotation as early as next week, but it's also possible he'll require a third rehab outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:39 pm

    • Getting day off
Mountcastle is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Boston.

Advice: After making five straight starts, Mountcastle will take a seat Tuesday. The first baseman has generated a hit in six straight games, going 11-for-25 (.440) with five runs scored and four doubles. Ryan O'Hearn will play first base and bat third while Kyle Stowers fills the DH spot and bats seventh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:25 pm
