      Matt Vierling went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored against the Red Sox on Saturday.

      Advice: Vierling led the game off with a double off Cooper Criswell and scored on a single by Riley Greene. Vierling added another double to start the sixth, but was left stranded on the bases.       Suarez picked up the save Friday against Kansas City. He pitched one-third of an inning with no strikeouts, allowing no runs on one hit.

      Advice: Suarez entered to collect the last out in a bases-loaded jam with a five-run lead. After yielding a two-RBI single to Freddy Fermin, the San Diego closer induced a Nelson Velazquez flyout to secure the win. Suarez is now tied with Emmanuel Clase for second in the majors with 17 saves, trailing Ryan Helsley by one.       Wacha was wearing a walking boot on his left foot following Friday's loss to the Padres, Pete Grathoff of The Kansas City Star reports.

      Advice: Wacha took a 90-mph line drive off his left foot during the first at-bat of Friday's contest. He was able to remain in the game and pitch 5.1 innings of two-run ball while logging two strikeouts, but it's obvious his shot to the foot has bothered him. The 32-year-old right-hander said after the game that he will undergo imaging Saturday, at which point he and the Royals will have a better idea as to how severe the damage is.       Robert Suárez retired one of the two batters he faced for a save Friday against the Royals.

      Advice: The Padres were up 11-3 heading to the bottom of the ninth, but Stephen Kolek gave up hits to six of the eight batters he faced. That created a save situation for Suárez with the bases loaded in an 11-6 game.       Iglesias allowed a run in the ninth inning while picking up a save against Oakland on Friday.

      Advice: Iglesias notched his 14th save of the year with a fascinating outing. He gave up a leadoff double to Zack Gelof before recording three outs on three consecutive pitches. Gelof would come in to score after two straight groundouts but Atlanta secured the 4-2 win. Iglesias has converted six straight save chances and owns a 2.53 ERA through 21.1 innings.       Michael Wacha was seen in a walking boot in the Royals’ clubhouse following Friday night’s start against the Padres.

      Advice: Wacha was hit in the foot by a line drive by the very first batter during Friday’s start. He wound up staying in the game and giving up just two runs over 5 1/3 innings of work, but was sore after the game. The right-hander told reporters after the game that he’ll get some scans done on Saturday to see if any damage was done, but that he’s hoping for good news.       Raisel Iglesias picked up his 14th save despite giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the A’s.

    • Alexis Díaz nearly blows save versus Cubs
      Alexis Díaz escaped with his 11th save after giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the Reds.

      Advice: Díaz got lucky when a pitch that hit both Nick Madigal’s hand and the knob of his bat was ruled a foul ball and was then fortunate again when Madrigal, as the tying run, was thrown out at home plate trying to score on Seiya Suzuki’s double. Díaz has a 5.91 ERA this season. He’s walked 15 and hit three batters in 21 1/3 innings. He’s simply not worthy of trust right now, but since he’s blown only two saves and the Reds don’t have anyone else they’re really wanting to turn to, he’ll probably remain in the closer’s role for now.       Diaz earned the save Friday against the Cubs despite allowing a run on two hits in a walk in the ninth inning.

      Advice: Diaz allowed the first two baserunners to reach safely before surrendering a one-out double to Seiya Suzuki. While one run scored on the play, Jacob Hurtubise would throw out Nick Madrigal at the plate as the tying run before Diaz got Cody Bellinger to fly out, sealing a 5-4 victory. While it didn't come easy for Diaz on Friday, he's now converted four straight save opportunities while allowing just one earned run in his last 5.2 innings.
