• Stymies Chicago
Gibson (5-2) earned the win Friday over the Cubs, allowing just two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Gibson was excellent Friday, turning in a season-high seven innings in his first scoreless outing of the year. The 36-year-old Gibson has been solid of late, working to a 2.19 ERA over his last five starts. Overall, his ERA is down to 3.44 on the campaign with a 1.20 WHIP and 73:31 K:BB across 83.2 innings. Gibson's currently scheduled to face the Marlins on the road in his next start. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago

  • Cade Cavalli (elbow) to throw live bullpen session
Cade Cavalli (elbow) is scheduled to throw a live bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: If all goes well with that session, it’s possible that the 25-year-old hurler could be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment. He’s going to need several starts there before he’s an option to join the Nationals’ rotation, but he’s certainly taking tangible strides in that direction. Rotoworld Today, 1:44 pm

  • Slated for live batting practice
Cavalli (elbow) will throw a live batting practice session Saturday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: The Nationals pulled Cavalli off his rehab assignment earlier this month, although they referred to it as merely giving the pitcher a break rather than it being a setback as he comes back from Tommy John surgery. Since he's facing hitters again, the righty figures to resume his rehab assignment soon. He could be an option for the Nationals around midseason. Rotowire.com Today, 1:40 pm

  • Starting rehab assignment Sunday
Kremer (triceps) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Kremer is slated to throw around four innings in what will be his first outing since he landed on the 15-day injured list three weeks ago with a right triceps strain. It could be the only rehab start he needs before rejoining the Orioles' rotation. If that's the case, he would be set up to start next weekend in Houston. Rotowire.com Today, 1:33 pm

  • Dean Kremer to make rehab start on Sunday
Dean Kremer (triceps) will make a minor league rehab start at Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.

Advice: Orioles’ manager Brandon Hyde told reporters on Friday that Kremer will work around four innings in that outing. It’s likely that he’ll need a second rehab start after that one before he’s ready to return to the Orioles’ rotation. In the meantime, it should give Cade Povich at least another week to establish himself in the O’s rotation. Rotoworld Today, 1:25 pm

  • Likely to pitch Saturday
Francis is a candidate to start or serve in a bulk relief role Saturday against the Guardians, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: The Blue Jays are declining to name a starter at this point, but Francis is likely to be their primary pitcher, whether it's as a traditional starter or a bulk reliever. Francis went four scoreless innings in a start his last time out but holds a 7.36 ERA over seven appearances (three starts) this season. Rotowire.com Today, 1:11 pm

  • One more rehab start
Rodriguez (back) will make one more rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday rather than rejoining the Blue Jays' rotation this weekend, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: The Jays were considering bringing Rodriguez back against the Guardians on Saturday after he struck out 10 over four shutout innings in his last rehab outing. However, the club has opted to get him stretched out a bit more before likely activating the right-hander next weekend. Rodriguez has been out since late April with thoracic spine inflammation. • Cole (elbow) set for Triple-A rehab start
Gerrit Cole (elbow) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Advice: Cole is getting closer to returning to the big leagues. Depending on how things go for him on Friday, he may be ready to make his next start in the major leagues. That would be a huge boon for the Yankees and fantasy managers. Rotoworld Today, 12:41 pm

  • Cubs LHP Jordan Wicks (oblique) leaves game
Cubs LHP Jordan Wicks (oblique) left Friday afternoon’s game against the Cardinals with a trainer.

Advice: The injuries keep coming for Cubs pitchers. Wicks left the mound with trainers in the second inning on Friday. Cubs manager Craig Counsell confirmed on the broadcast that it was an oblique injury. We’ll have an update later once we know more, but it seems like this injury might require a stint on the injured list. Rotoworld Today, 12:15 pm
