    • Austin Gomber allows four over five vs. Cardinals
Austin Gomber didn’t qualify for a decision after allowing four runs in five innings Friday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Gomber — a former St. Louis prospect who came to the Rockies in the Nolan Arenado deal — gave up six hits with one walk, and he struck out four. The left-hander gave up three runs in the first, and while he settled down over the final four frames, the damage was enough to prevent him from picking up a win or a Quality Start. Gomber has been shaky over his last two starts, but he still sports a healthy 3.38 ERA. His next chance is scheduled for Thursday against the Twins. Rotoworld Friday, 8:27 pm
    • Irvin throws six scoreless innings in win Friday
Jake Irvin threw six shutout innings and got the win in the Nationals’ 2-1 victory over the Braves on Friday.

Advice: Irvin gave up four hits, walked two and struck out four. The win was his fourth of the season. Irvin has allowed more than two earned runs in only one of his last eight starts. His ERA is down to 3.12 and he has a SO:BB of 64:14 in 75 innings. Irvin has been consistently good this season and it’s mostly supported by a 3.56 xFIP. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face the Tigers on the road next week. Rotoworld Friday, 7:02 pm

    • Westburg hits 10th home run in win Friday
Jordan Westburg went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Rays on Friday.

Advice: Westburg’s home run was his 10th of the season. He hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to give the Orioles a 6-3 lead. The 25-year-old third baseman is having a breakout season for Baltimore. His 133 wRC+ is in the top 25 among qualified hitters this year. Rotoworld Friday, 6:54 pm

    • Has Atlanta's number
Irvin (4-5) earned the win Friday over Atlanta, allowing four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Irvin has now thrown 14 scoreless innings in two starts against Atlanta this year, allowing just six hits while logging 14 strikeouts. The 27-year-old right-hander has now delivered four straight quality starts, pitching to a 1.47 ERA in that span. Irvin's lowered his ERA to 3.12 on the season with a 1.03 WHIP and 64:14 K:BB across 75 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Detroit. • Shouldn't miss next start
Flaherty (back) said he expects to make his next start, which is scheduled for Tuesday against Washington, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: Flaherty was pulled after 60 pitches in his last start due to back tightness, but it seems as though he's avoided any significant injury and is all but confirmed to face the Nationals. Considering back injuries can be touch and go, there remains a small risk that the issue will flare up again. Flaherty will look to extend his scoreless innings streak Tuesday, which stands at 11.2 innings. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:52 pm

    • Smashes three-run homer
De La Cruz went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run Thursday in an 8-4 victory against the Cubs.

Advice: De La Cruz, on the one-year anniversary of his MLB debut, turned a two-run Reds deficit into a one-run lead with a three-run blast in the third frame. The long ball was his second in three contests following a season-long 21-game homer drought. After tallying 13 homers and 35 steals over 98 games as a rookie last season, De La Cruz is nearing those marks with 11 long balls and 32 thefts through 63 contests in 2024. • Impressive in win
Houck (6-5) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out nine over seven innings to earn the win Thursday over the White Sox. He did not issue a walk.

Advice: Houck carried a no-hitter through five innings, though the White Sox managed to tag him for one run in each of the sixth and seventh frames. The right-hander remains dialed in, having allowed just four runs over 27 innings across his last four starts. Houck is at a 1.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 84:15 K:BB over 85 innings through 13 starts this season. His next start is projected to be a challenging one at home versus the Phillies. • Grabs fifth win
Quantrill (5-4) allowed three hits and four walks while striking out one over five scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday over the Cardinals.

Advice: Quantrill was fortunate not to give up any runs after a less-than-sharp outing. He's walked multiple batters in five of his last six starts and nine of his 13 outings overall, including three starts with four or more walks. The right-hander is now at a 3.58 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and 51:29 K:BB over 73 innings this season. Quantrill is projected to make his next start on the road in Minnesota. • Tanner Houck whiffs nine in win over White Sox
Tanner Houck recorded nine strikeouts and yielded two runs over seven innings on Thursday in a win over the White Sox.

Advice: Houck delivered a dominant performance at Guaranteed Rate Field, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning before finally surrendering a leadoff single to Lenyn Sosa and a run-scoring double to Zach DeLoach later in the frame to break up the potential shutout. He got 14 runs of support on 24 hits from Boston’s lineup to allow him to cruise to an easy victory. The 27-year-old righty has emerged as a reliable fantasy contributor this season, allowing three runs or fewer in 12 of his 13 starts so far. He’ll bring a stellar 1.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 84/15 K/BB ratio across 85 innings (13 starts) into a home outing on Wednesday against the Phillies. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:52 pm
