      Ha-Seong Kim stole two bases while going 1-for-3 with a walk against the Reds on Thursday.

      Advice: Kim was also thrown out stealing for the second time this season, but the pair of thefts do bring his season total to 13. That’s a solid number, obviously, but his .216/.335/.369 slash has left a lot to be desired.     • Luis Gil holds M’s to one hit, strikes out eight
      Luis Gil held Seattle to one hit with eight strikeouts over 6 1/3 shutout innings Thursday while picking up a win.

      Advice: Another masterful outing for Gil, one that might quiet the “move to the bullpen” talk when Gerrit Cole returns to the rotation. Gil did walk two, but he was mostly dominant with the only hit being a J.P. Crawford single in the fourth. Gil has struck out 22 batters over his last two starts in 12 1/3 innings, and his ERA is a sparkling 2.11. A chance to impress again is scheduled for Wednesday against the Angels in Los Angeles.     • Rosenthal: Gil could move to pen when Cole returns
      According to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees “are likely to ‘back off’ on Luis Gil in order to have him as a factor for the playoffs.”

      Advice: On one hand, backing off Gil makes some sense. The 25-year-old has already thrown 49 innings this season and has not thrown more than 96 innings in any season since 2019. However, when Yankees manager Aaron Boone was asked about his plans for Gil, he mentioned that Gerrit Cole is likely four to six weeks away from returning, which is an eternity during a baseball season. Moving Gil to the bullpen could make sense on the surface, but it’s impossible to tell what position the Yankees rotation will be in by the time Cole comes back.     • Goes four innings Wednesday
      Gibson allowed three unearned runs on five hits and struck out three without walking a batter over four innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Wednesday.

      Advice: Gibson exited the contest after a rain delay, and the Cardinals got him off the hook for the loss once play resumed. This was the first time in 10 starts he didn't walk a batter, though he was a little shaky with just 50 of 84 pitches thrown for strikes and one wild pitch in the contest. He's at a 3.81 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 46:23 K:BB over 59 innings this season, and he's allowed more than three runs just three times. Gibson is lined up to make his next start at Cincinnati.       Alonso went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Guardians.

      Advice: Alonso opened the scoring in the first inning, sending a fastball from Triston McKenzie into the right-field seats for his 11th homer of the year. The 29-year-old Alonso has put together an eight-game hitting streak while going 18-for-59 (.305) with three homers and a .936 OPS in his last 14 contests.       Olson went 2-for-5 in Wednesday's win over the Cubs with a solo home run.

      Advice: Olson launched a two-out, solo homer in the top of the seventh to extend Atlanta's lead to seven runs, giving the first baseman his fourth long ball this month and seventh overall on the season. The veteran first baseman also added a single on the night, marking his ninth multi-hit performance of the campaign and fifth in his last nine games.       Jones didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Giants, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks across six innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: The rookie delivered a fourth consecutive quality start Wednesday and generated a double play in three separate innings to keep the Giants from putting a runner in scoring position until the fifth frame. In that fifth inning, Jones allowed a double and an RBI single to the first two batters he faced, then he surrendered a two-run homer to Matt Chapman in the sixth. Jones is one quality start shy of the league lead and holds a 3.05 ERA with a 68:10 K:BB across 59.0 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Tigers in Detroit on Tuesday.       Advice: Olson is having a much better month at the plate after a cold start in April, with multiple hits in five of his last nine games. He sent one over the fence in this one, taking Jose Cuas deep for a solo homer in the seventh inning.       Jared Jones pitched well in a tough-luck no-decision on Wednesday, limiting the Giants to three runs on six hits over his six innings of work.

      Advice: The 22-year-old punched out five batters on the evening while allowing three walks. The Giants didn’t break through against him until Jorge Soler smacked an RBI single in the fifth inning. He then served up a two-run bomb to Matt Chapman in the sixth. Jones generated 16 swings and misses on 93 pitches on the night — seven of those on his slider — while registering a strong CSW of 32 percent.
