    • Spencer Steer socks three-run HR against Yankees
Spencer Steer hit a three-run homer while helping the Reds to an 8-4 win over the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Steer extended the Reds’ lead to 5-0 with a three-run blast off Marcus Stroman; the third homer Cincinnati hit against the right-hander. Steer has now gone deep 11 times with 54 RBI. The 26-year-old infielder’s .239/.332/.416 slash leaves a bit to be desired, but he’s starting to swing the bat better and should be a solid fantasy option over the second half of the 2024 campaign. • Ben Lively gets win after allowing three over six
Ben Lively allowed three runs over six innings to pick up a win against the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Lively scattered six hits while striking out six and walking one. The right-hander threw 93 pitches in the outing while landing 65 of them for strikes. He held Chicago to just one run through the first five before allowing a two-run blast to Paul DeJong to turn a strong outing into a fine one, all things considered. Lively has registered a 3.14 ERA and will be back on the bump next week against the Tigers. Rotoworld Today, 12:59 pm

    • Thomson: Schwaber could return on Tuesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said “it’s possible” that Kyle Schwarber (groin) could return on Tuesday when the Phillies begin their series against the Dodgers.

Advice: Schwarber is already running at 90% on the field and has not yet been on the IL for a week, so he likely wouldn’t need any rehab assignment if he progresses quickly. There are a few days to go, but it sounds like we might get a minimum stay for Schwarber on the IL. Rotoworld Today, 12:23 pm

    • Smacks go-ahead homer
Winker hit a solo home run in his only at-bat in Thursday's 1-0 win over the Mets.

Advice: He did not start with the lefty Jose Quintana pitching, but Winker provided the only spark of the contest when he took Adrian Houser deep in the eighth. It was Winker's 10th homer of the season, his fifth career pinch-hit blast and first pinch-hit homer since 2019 with the Reds. The 30-year-old will often sit against lefties, but he's been very good in his first year with the Nationals, slashing .263/.377/.425 with 39 RBI and 12 stolen bases. Rotowire.com Today, 11:05 am

    • Jesse Winker hits pinch-hit game-winning HR
Jesse Winker propelled the Nationals to a 1-0 win over the Mets with a pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning.

Advice: Winker was not in the starting lineup with left-hander Jose Quintana on the mound, but he entered the lineup to face Adrian Houser in the eighth and clobbered a 407-foot home run for the eventual game-winner. It was Winker’s 10th of the season to go along with 39 RBIs. He figures to be a popular name at the trade deadline for a contender looking for a left-handed bat. That could potentially lead to a loss of fantasy value if he is not traded into a starting role, so fantasy managers will cross their fingers. Rotoworld Today, 10:56 am

    • Working out at 90 percent intensity
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Schwarber (groin) is going through drills at 90 percent intensity, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Meanwhile, Thomson pegged Bryce Harper (hamstring) and J.T. Realmuto (knee) at 70-to-75 percent as they go through drills. While it's possible all three players make it back prior to the All-Star break, Schwarber would appear to have the best shot to do so. He's coming back from a left groin strain. • Three-run shot in loss
Freeman went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and two walks in Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Freeman put the Dodgers ahead with a three-run blast in the bottom of the first and proceeded to reach base four times in the contest in a losing effort. It was the first baseman's 13th long ball of the season and the fourth in his last 15 games. Over that latter stretch he's batting .327 (18-for-55) with 14 RBI and 10 runs scored. Freeman has also recorded multiple hits in back-to-back games and in three of his last four. Rotowire.com Today, 7:50 am

    • Sitting versus southpaw
Winker is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: Lefty Jose Quintana is taking the mound Thursday for New York, so Winker will hit the bench for the third time in four games. Harold Ramirez will receive another start at designated hitter as the pair continue to platoon the position. Rotowire.com Today, 6:15 am

    • Just misses quality start
Kikuchi allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Wednesday.

Advice: Kikuchi gave up just one run through five frames before serving up a solo shot to Yordan Alvarez in the sixth. The southpaw got two more outs in the inning but was pulled one out shy of a quality start following a Jeremy Pena double. Despite that disappointment, this was a positive outing for Kikuchi after he had given up 13 runs across 11 frames over his final three starts of June. The hurler has fallen off after a strong start to the campaign -- across his past eight appearances, he has just one quality start while registering a 6.50 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 37:10 K:BB across 36 innings.
