    • Bailey Falter gives up five runs in loss to Reds
Bailey Falter was lit up for five runs (four earned) over four innings on Monday in a loss to the Reds.

Advice: Falter didn’t fare as well this time out in a rematch against the Reds after limiting Cincinnati to just a pair of runs over seven frames last week. He was tagged for five hits and needed 79 pitches (57 strikes) to complete four frames. He finished with two strikeouts and only issued one walk. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh’s bullpen didn’t help matters as they were lit up for six runs over the final five innings, which was enough to ensure he got stuck with another loss. He’ll bring a pedestrian 4.00 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 54/22 K/BB ratio across 83 1/3 innings (15 starts) into a tough road matchup on Sunday against the Braves. Rotoworld Monday, 7:17 pm
    • Playing catch Monday
Musgrove (elbow) will play catch Monday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Musgrove has been throwing plyometric balls in recent days, but Monday marks his first time playing catch since he landed on the 15-day injured list at the beginning of the month. Surgery hasn't been ruled out down the road for the right-hander, but he'll attempt to come back from the IL without an operation. Even if the non-surgical route proves effective for Musgrove, he's still several weeks away from a potential return. Rotowire.com Jun 24, 3:07 pm

    • Max Fried keeps Yankees bats at bay
Max Fried allowed one run on six hits in six innings in a win over the Yankees on Sunday.

Advice: It wasn’t a dominant outing for the left-hander, but he allowed just one extra-base hit all day and was able to pitch his way out of any trouble that he found himself in. He induced just seven whiffs on 39 swings for an 18 percent whiff rate and 26 percent CSW, but that’s a pretty solid day against a good Yankees lineup. Fried is now 7-3 with a 3.00 ERA on the year and is set up for a solid start against the Pirates next week. Rotoworld Jun 23, 2:27 pm

    • Picks up seventh win
Fried improved to 7-3 on the season in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Yankees, striking out four while allowing one run on six hits and no walks over six innings.

Advice: Fried kept the Yankees off the board until a solo run crossed in the sixth on an Anthony Volpe double. Three of the six hits Fried allowed came during the sixth, but a timely double play ended the inning and kept Fried in line for his seventh win. Fried has now turned in eight quality starts through 15 outing, and in seventh of those starts, he's gone at least six innings while allowing no more than one earned run. He's currently scheduled to next toe the rubber against Pittsburgh when the Pirates head to Atlanta for a weekend set. Rotowire.com Jun 23, 1:49 pm

    • Max Fried stellar against Yankees in win
Max Fried shut the Yankees out over six innings in a 3-1 win on Sunday. He struck out four without walking a batter.

Advice: Fried was great in this and kept the Yankees off-balance by mixing all five of his pitches. He didn’t throw one individual offering more than 30% of the time and was adept at varying his four-seam fastball, sinker, and curveball early in counts. He’s as steady and stable as they come. • Takes step toward return
Musgrove (elbow) lightly threw weighted plyometric balls Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: A previous report indicated Musgrove could play catch around the middle of the week, but it turns out the extent of his throwing was the work he did with the plyo balls. The workout was, however, a step in his progression toward playing catch, which could happen before the end of the month. Musgrove doesn't seem close to taking part in a rehab assignment and isn't likely to be activated off the 15-day injured list until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Jun 22, 12:38 pm

    • Earns third straight win
Montgomery (6-4) earned the win against the Phillies on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts over six innings.

Advice: Montgomery tossed two scoreless innings before surrendering a two-run home run to Trea Turner in the third. He responded with three straight scoreless innings and left the game with a 4-2 lead after throwing 83 pitches. Montgomery earned his third consecutive win while registering his first quality start in June, but he has not reached 90 pitches in an outing since May 19. On the season, Montgomery owns a 5.71 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB over 63 innings and lines up to face the Twins next week. Rotowire.com Jun 21, 7:32 pm
