      X-rays came back negative on Nico Hoerner’s hand after being hit by a pitch during Thursday’s game against the Reds.

      Advice: Hoerner remained in the contest and appears to have avoided serious injury after being plunked on the hand by a 96.5 mph fastball from Reds starter Hunter Greene during the early stages of the game.     • Lopez allows two in no-decision Thursday
      Reynoldo Lopez allowed two runs in six innings and got a no-decision in the Braves’ 5-2 victory over the Nationals on Thursday.



      Advice: Lopez gave up six hits, walked one and struck out seven. CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas hit back-to-back home runs off him in the sixth inning. The home runs Lopez allowed were his third and fourth of the season (0.57 HR/9). Only Ranger Suarez and Luis Gil have a lower ERA than Lopez’ 1.85 (min. 50 innings), though his xFIP is significantly higher at 3.71. He has eight quality starts but he’s only won three of his 11 starts this year. The 30-year-old right-hander is set to face the Orioles on the road next week.

    • MRI reveals bone spur in Joe Musgrove’s elbow
      Joe Musgrove underwent an MRI that revealed a bone spur and contusion in his right elbow.

      Advice: Musgrove, who landed on the injured list last weekend with right elbow inflammation, received both a PRP and cortisone injections to address the issue and hopes to resume throwing in roughly two weeks. The 31-year-old righty told reporters arthroscopic surgery is possible if the issue doesn’t improve, but that’s not being considered as an option for now.       Advice: Musgrove got PRP and cortisone injections with the hope of resuming throwing in two weeks. However, there is also the caveat that surgery will be required if healing does not occur. That leaves Musgrove's potential timeline to return to the mound unclear, though it would be surprising to see him back on the mound prior to the All-Star break based on this most recent news.
