    • Homers in win
Pederson went 1-for-2 with two walks, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Thursday's 12-3 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Pederson got the rout started early against his former team with a first-inning solo homer. It was his second home run in the last three games and 12th of the season. Pederson maintains career highs in average (.284) and OPS (.896), mostly against right-handed pitching. Just 18 of his 250 plate appearances have come against left-handers. • Records save on Independence Day
Hader earned a save against the Blue Jays on Thursday, allowing one hit in one scoreless inning.

Advice: Hader entered in the ninth inning with Houston holding a two-run lead and immediately allowed a single to bring the tying run to the plate. However, he then induced a double play -- Toronto's fifth double play of the contest -- and needed just nine pitches overall to nail down his 14th save. Despite the successful outing, Hader snapped an eight-game streak of appearances with at least one punchout. He had posted a 14:1 K:BB across eight frames during that stretch. • Calf remains tight
Diaz said his calf is still a little bit tight Thursday, which is why he's not sprinting full out on the bases, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Advice: Diaz was reinstated from the 10-day injured list June 30 after nursing a left calf strain. Since his return, the catcher is 6-for-18 with two doubles. However, it appears the calf injury is still lingering, as the 33-year-old says he will be careful about it. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:52 pm

    • Jurickson Profar powers Padres to win over Rangers
Jurickson Profar went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer on Thursday, sparking the Padres to a 3-1 victory over the Rangers.

Advice: Less than 24 hours after being named to the first All-Star Game roster of his career, Profar came back to haunt his former team with a sixth-inning solo shot off Rangers veteran starter Max Scherzer for his 12th round-tripper of the season. The 31-year-old corner outfielder’s unexpected late-career breakout continues as he’s batting .317 with 50 runs scored, 12 homers, 56 RBI and five steals through 89 games this season. • Rafael Devers walks three times, drives in two
Rafael Devers drove in two runs while walking three times in a victory over the Marlins in extra-innings Thursday.

Advice: Hard to drive in runs without getting a hit, but Devers is capable of doing anything he set his mind to. He drove in both runs on fielder’s choices. All three of the walks were intentional, which is not something you see too often in 2024, or any year really. He’s now hitting .288/.375/.568 on the season with 51 RBI. • Sitting Thursday
Garcia isn't in the Royals' lineup Thursday against the Rays.

Advice: Garcia will get a day to rest Thursday after going 1-for-7 with a walk and a run scored through the first two games of the series. His absence will move Michael Massey into second base while Vinnie Pasquantino serves as the DH, putting Salvador Perez at first with Freddy Fermin behind the plate. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:12 pm

    • Josh Hader works around hit to pick up save
Josh Hader allowed a hit but no runs while picking up a save Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Hader gave up the hit, but worked around it while picking up his 14th save for the surging Astros. The left-hander needed just nine pitches to get through the inning, and six of those went for strikes. There’s every reason to believe Hader will be one of the best closers in baseball during the second half of the 2024 campaign. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:52 pm

    • Mike Trout has begun hitting off a tee
Angels manager Ron Washington said that Mike Trout “has begun running on a treadmill and hitting off a tee.”

Advice: It would be very impressive to do those at the same time, but we’ll assume Trout is separating those activities. Still, it’s nice to see the 32-year-old making progress in his return from knee surgery. It was reported that Trout was running on a treadmill back in May, but taking swings has been a new development. The veteran says he wants to return before the end of July, so he may begin a rehab stint after the All-Star break if he continues to progress. Of course, the Angels have absolutely no need to rush him back this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:33 pm

    • Runs on treadmill
Angels manager Ron Washington said Thursday that Trout (knee) has started running on a treadmill, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It's a big step in Trout's recovery as he works his way back from surgery on a torn meniscus in early May. He has also done some hitting on the field. Trout said this past weekend that he expected to return from the injured list by late July, although he certainly has some markers he needs to hit first before making that happen.
