• Expected back Tuesday
The Cubs expect to reinstate Swanson (knee) from the injured list Tuesday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Swanson took live batting practice Friday for the first time since landing on the injured list May 10 with a right knee injury, and he appears to be trending toward a slightly-longer-than-minimum IL stint. He will almost certainly reclaim his role as Chicago's everyday shortstop once he returns, though the 30-year-old infielder had gone just 1-for-18 with a solo home run in his last six games prior to getting injured. • Kodai Senga (shoulder) throwing again on Sunday
Kodai Senga (shoulder) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Sunday.

Advice: Senga remains in a bit of a holding pattern with his recovery from a right shoulder issue as he continues to work on his mechanics. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return at the moment, but it seems plausible that he could be back before the end of next month, barring any setbacks. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

  • Shut down again
Manager Bob Melvin said Saturday that Cobb (hip/shoulder) has paused his throwing program due to further complications with his right shoulder, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Cobb has now been pulled off his throwing program three times since the beginning of the season due to problems with his shoulder. An MRI of his shoulder came back negative in late April, but the Giants will likely want to take another look just to be absolutely certain the right-hander isn't dealing with some underlying issue. Melvin added that Cobb isn't close to returning following his latest shutdown, making it likely his absence extends well into June. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

  • Luis García Jr. (heel) out Saturday vs. Phillies
Luis García Jr. (heel) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Phillies.

Advice: No surprise here to see Garcia getting some time off to rest and recover for the second straight contest after suffering a right heel injury earlier this week against the White Sox. It’ll be veteran Ildemaro Vargas handling the keystone in his absence. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

  • Report: Mets offered Pete Alonso $158M extension
The New York Post’s Joel Sherman reports the Mets offered first baseman Pete Alonso a seven-year, $158 million contract extension last summer.

Advice: Sherman adds that “the sides never got close to a deal.” The 29-year-old impending free agent could still wind up back in New York, but at this point it sounds like he’s going to test the free agent waters to see what other offers might be out there. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

  • Alex Cobb (shoulder) pauses throwing program
Alex Cobb (shoulder, hip) has paused his throwing program.

Advice: Giants manager Bob Melvin told reporters Cobb isn’t close to returning since he’s still feeling something in his shoulder. The 36-year-old righty underwent an MRI last month that didn’t reveal any structural damage, so it’s a really bad sign that he’s still having issues. There is no timetable for his return and at this juncture, it’s fair to wonder whether he’ll return at all this year. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago

  • Sean Newcomb (knee) starting rehab assignment
Sean Newcomb (knee) will kick off a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday with the Athletics’ Rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.

Advice: Newcomb, who is currently on the 60-day injured list with left knee irritation, is working his way back from last year’s knee surgery and is expected to return as a reliever. The 30-year-old southpaw might be ready to rejoin Oakland’s bullpen in a couple weeks. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago

  • Idle against lefty
Wade isn't in the Giants' lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: Wade will begin Saturday's contest in the dugout as left-hander Ty Blach prepares to toe the slab for Colorado. As a result. Wilmer Flores will pick up a start at first base while batting third. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

  • Sits down versus lefty
Sabol isn't in the Giants' lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: Left-hander Ty Blach will start on the mound for Colorado, meaning the lefty-hitting Sabol will begin Saturday's contest on the bench. Curt Casali will start instead behind the dish while batting ninth. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago
