• Blue Jays designate Cavan Biggio for assignment
Blue Jays designated INF-OF Cavan Biggio for assignment,

Advice: Spencer Horwitz is coming up in his place. Biggio saved himself from being non-tendered with a strong finish last season, but he could never get it going this year, batting .200/.323/.291 with two homers in 131 plate appearances. While he has versatility working in his favor, he’s not particularly good at any position, and he’s hit .219/.327/.351 since the beginning of 2021. The Jays will try to trade Biggio, but that might require taking on part of the approx. $2.4 million he’s still owed over the rest of the season. If he clears waivers because of that salary, he’ll likely remain with the organization, since he doesn’t have the service time to reject the assignment and still collect the money. • Hitting and throwing
Wade (hamstring) has begun hitting and throwing programs at the Giants' complex in Arizona, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Wade still has plenty of boxes to check off before he can start playing in rehab games, but resuming baseball activity is certainly a step in the right direction. The 30-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain in late May and still projects to be sidelined until at least the end of June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:12 pm

  • Sitting again Friday
Davis is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Toronto.

Advice: The righty-hitting Davis will sit for a second straight game as the Blue Jays send right-hander Chris Bassitt to the mound Friday. Over his last 15 games, Davis has slashed .250/.298/.386 with two home runs and three RBI over 44 at-bats. Tyler Soderstrom will start at first base and bat seventh for the series opener. • Expected to join Toronto
Horwitz is expected to join the Blue Jays in Oakland on Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: He will presumably be added to the roster, although it's unclear what the corresponding transaction will be. Horwitz has been on fire of late at Triple-A Buffalo, going 16-for-36 with a pair of home runs. He's also played mostly second base over that stretch, and that could be a path to playing time for him with the big club if the Jays would prefer to use Davis Schneider more in left field. Horwitz could also fill in at first base if Vladimir Guerrero sees more time across the diamond at third. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:10 am
  • Smacks homer in loss
Vaughn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 14-2 loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: Vaughn has hit safely in his last six games, going 8-for-23 (.348) in that span. He dealt with a sprained left ring finger to begin June, but it hasn't slowed him down since he was cleared to return. The first baseman is up to five homers on the year with 20 RBI, 17 runs scored, one stolen base and a .211/.275/.338 slash line through 233 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:36 pm
  • Back in majors
The Rockies recalled Toglia from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday

Advice: With Kris Bryant (ribs) and Sean Bouchard (foot) headed to the injured list, the Rockies will call upon Toglia to add depth to their depleted outfield group. The 25-year-old owns a .505 OPS through 49 plate appearances in the big leagues this season, but he's slashed .277/.363/.571 with nine homers and 27 RBI since being sent down to Triple-A in late April. • Rockies promote Toglia from Triple-A
Rockies recalled INF/OF Michael Togilia from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: The 25-year-old got a chance earlier in the season thanks to a Kris Bryant injury and it looks like he’ll get another one here. He has hit .106/.143/.362 with four homers, eight RBI, and a 20/1 K/BB ratio in 49 plate appearances and should not be on fantasy radars. Rotoworld Thursday, 12:05 pm

  • Exits starting nine
Joe is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Dodgers.

Advice: It's the first time since May 13 that Joe has been absent from the Pirates' starting nine. Rowdy Tellez will occupy first base and Edward Olivares will patrol right field while Joe gets some rest. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:34 am

  • Back to bench Thursday
Davis is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Davis had started at first base in both of the Athletics' previous two matchups with right-handed pitchers, going 2-for-7 with a pair of singles. Though the Mariners are bringing another righty (Bryan Woo) to the hill for Thursday's series finale, Davis will cede his spot in the lineup to Tyler Soderstrom. The Athletics could elect to rotate Davis, Soderstrom and Aledmys Diaz at first base until one of the three begins performing well enough to take control of an everyday role.
