    • Homers, stays hot in win
Kwan went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-0 win over the Mariners.

Advice: Kwan got things going early, walking and scoring a run in the first inning then hitting a two-run homer in the second. He later added a single in the sixth. Kwan continues to rake since his return from a hamstring injury May 31, extending his hitting streak to 13 games with eight multi-hit efforts in that span. On the season, he is hitting a ridiculous .397 with five home runs, 20 RBI and 41 runs scored in 205 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

    • Clayton Kershaw goes three in first rehab start
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) went three innings in his first minor league rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday night.

Advice: The 36-year-old southpaw threw 36 pitches on the night — 26 of them for strikes — while hitting 90 mph on his fastball. Kershaw surrendered one run on two hits and a walk while punching out five in the ballgame. He’ll continue to work every fifth day or so in the minor leagues to build up his stamina with a goal of rejoining the Dodgers’ rotation at some point around the All-Star break. • Steven Kwan with two more hits, goes yard
Steven Kwan went 2-for-3 with a home run, walk, and two runs scored on Wednesday against the Mariners.

Advice: Kwan continues what’s been an all-time start to the season. His batting average ticked back up to an unthinkable .397 and the homer was his fifth of the season. For the “batting average doesn’t matter” folks, Kwan’s OPS sits at 1.010 through nearly 45 games. Few in the league are hitting better than him right now. Rotoworld Today, 6:09 pm

    • Bypassed in save opportunity
Neris was not used to close out Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants, with Colten Brewer getting the save instead.

Advice: Neris took the loss and blew a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) in an inning of work, and he's allowed a total of seven earned runs over his last three outings. The veteran's ERA has climbed to 4.73 as a result of his recent struggles, and he's blown four saves this year in 14 chances. Chicago manager Craig Counsell said following Monday's game that he didn't plan on making a change at closer, according to James Neveau of Yahoo Sports, but this situation could be fluid. Brewer is at least worth keeping an eye on in the short term. Rotowire.com Today, 5:39 pm
    • Homers for lone run
Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 1-0 victory over the Reds.

Advice: Reynolds snapped a scoreless tie with two outs in the eighth inning, launching a Nick Martinez changeup over the centerfield fence to provide the only offense in a 1-0 Pirates win. The 29-year-old Reynolds has been red hot at the plate -- he extended his hit streak to 17 games, going 24-for-70 (.343) with 11 extra-base hits in that span. His slash line is up to .271/.337/.448 on the year with 10 homers, 40 RBI, 30 runs scored and five stolen bases across 332 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 3:02 pm

    • Another scoreless outing
Lopez (5-2) earned the win Wednesday over the Tigers, allowing seven hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out six.

Advice: It's the second straight scoreless outing for Lopez, though he failed to make it through six innings for just the second time in his last six starts. The 30-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to a remarkable 1.57 with a 1.08 WHIP and 76:23 K:BB across 74.1 innings this year. Lopez is currently lined up for a road matchup with the Cardinals early next week in his next start. Rotowire.com Today, 12:54 pm

    • Reynaldo López shuts out Tigers for five in win
Reynaldo López scattered seven hits over five scoreless innings in a victory over the Tigers on Wednesday.

Advice: Both Lopez and Tarik Skubal allowed seven hits in this one, but every one López surrendered was a single and they were all spread out; he allowed one each in the first three innings and two apiece in the fourth and fifth. It meant López was in no position to go deep today, but he didn’t need to in a 7-0 game. López moved to 5-2 with a 1.57 ERA. Rotoworld Today, 12:31 pm

    • Bryan Reynolds crushes go-ahead homer vs. Reds
Bryan Reynolds launched a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning on Wednesday, lifting the Pirates to a 1-0 victory over the Reds.

Advice: Reynolds snapped a scoreless stalemate by taking Reds reliever Nick Martinez deep to left-center field with two outs in the eighth inning. It was his 10th round-tripper of the season and wound up being the lone tally for either side in a throwback pitcher’s duel on a sizzling-hot, 87-degree afternoon at PNC Park. The 29-year-old outfielder has a 17-game hitting streak and is batting .343 (24-for-70) with three homers, 10 RBI and one steal during that span since the outset of June. • Returns to action
Heim went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Mets.

Advice: Heim returned from a paternity leave Tuesday and was back in the lineup as the catcher. He's batting .235/.278/.341 with six home runs, 31 RBI, one steal and 22 runs scored over 241 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 5:37 am
