• Another productive day Sunday
Urias went 1-for-3 with two RBI from a bases-loaded walk and a run-scoring single in a win over the Astros on Sunday.

Advice: Both of Urias' RBI were particularly noteworthy, as he displayed some timely plate discipline with the bases jammed in the second inning and then drove in the game-tying run with an eighth-inning single that plated Dylan Moore. Urias' .738 OPS belies some of his struggles at the plate, as he's still carrying a .167 average and .286 on-base percentage; however, he's also contributed 10 RBI in 20 games, the byproduct of a .444 average in 14 plate appearances with men in scoring position. • Starting at second base Monday
Merrifield will start at second base and bat eighth in Monday's contest against the Giants, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Merrifield's playing time with the Phillies this season has been sparse, but he could see increased reps at second base over the next several weeks on days Bryson Stott slides over to shortstop to cover for the injured Trea Turner (hamstring). The 35-year-old has been solid in 2024 in his limited chances, putting up a .724 OPS with two home runs and three stolen bases across 53 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 9:21 am

  • Getting start at shortstop
Stott will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Monday's game versus the Giants, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Edmundo Sosa handled shortstop for the Phillies in the team's first two games without Trea Turner (hamstring), but Stott will man the position Monday while Whit Merrifield plays second base. Stott is making his first start at shortstop since Game 6 of the 2022 World Series. Rotowire.com Today, 9:15 am

  • Merrifield starting at 2B for Phillies on Monday
Whit Merrifield will start at second base for the Phillies on Monday against the Giants.

Advice: Bryson Stott will slide to shortstop to accommodate Merrifield in the starting lineup against a right-handed pitcher. In the first two games without Trea Turner, the Phillies turned to Edmundo Sosa at shortstop and allowed Stott to remain at second base, but Sosa went 2-for-9 in those games, so the team may be looking to see what else can work. Stott didn’t play any shortstop last year with Turner in Philadelphia, but he did play 658 innings there in 2022 and graded out slightly below average. If the Phillies feel that he can handle shortstop again, that could mean extra at-bats for Merrifield, who hasn’t been great to start his career in Philadelphia. Rotoworld Today, 9:06 am

  • Report: Royals reached out to ask for Arraez
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that the Royals contacted the Marlins last week to discuss trading for Luis Arraez before the infielder was dealt to the Padres

Advice: Rosenthal was quick to note that those talks “never advanced beyond the preliminary stage"; however, it’s interesting that the Royals even made the phone call because it tells us that the team is looking to capitalize on their fast start to the season which sees them just 2.5 games behind the Guardians in the AL Central. However, another interesting aspect of this is where the Royals may be looking to upgrade. Michael Massey has been pretty good at second base since coming off the IL and Vinnie Pasquantino is locked in at first base, so the Royals must have felt that Arraez could fill the DH spot, which means either Nelson Velazquez or Hunter Renfroe could be on notice in the midst of a slow start to the season. • Homers, extends hit streak
Marte went 1-for-4 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 11-4 win over San Diego.

Advice: Marte took Matt Waldron deep with a two-run home run in the first inning, giving the Diamondbacks an early lead. It was the seventh consecutive game with a hit for Marte, who homered for the first time in 16 games. He's belted six home runs and is slashing .307/.361/.526 through 35 contests. • Could begin hitting this week
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday that he believes Perdomo (knee) will start hitting this week, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.

Advice: Perdomo has already started some baseball activity, including fielding grounders and throwing. A rehab assignment for the shortstop should follow his return to the batting cages, but a timeline for his return to MLB has not yet been established. Rotowire.com Today, 5:09 am

  • Leaves yard Sunday
Estrada went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Estrada gave the Giants some late life with a two-run blast in the seventh off Taijuan Walker, which ultimately knocked him from the game. The 28-year-old is riding a five-game hit streak and has six RBI over his last four games. In 12 games since April 21, Estrada is slashing .333/.364/.595 with two homers, nine RBI, six runs and a 1:5 BB:K. Rotowire.com Today, 3:40 am

  • Homers in blowout win
Westburg went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 11-1 win over the Reds.

Advice: Westburg did his damage early, lifting a two-run blast in the first inning. He had gone 0-for-7 over the first two games of the weekend series in Cincinnati. The homer was his first since April 21 and his sixth of the year. The infielder has added a strong .286/.336/.513 slash line with 23 RBI, 18 runs scored, four steals, five doubles and two triples through 32 contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:05 pm
