    • Kenley Jansen throws scoreless 10th for save
Kenley Jansen worked a scoreless 10th inning for his 17th save Friday against the Yankees.

Advice: Working with a two-run lead, Jansen allowed a single but still prevented the automatic runner from scoring in a 5-3 game. It’s his ninth straight scoreless appearance, and his ERA currently stands at 2.08. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:58 pm
    • Locks down 22nd save
Kimbrel picked up the save in Friday's 3-2 victory over the Athletics. He pitched a clean inning with two strikeouts.

Advice: The veteran closer extended his scoreless appearances streak to six with this performance, promptly retiring the side on a tidy 10 pitches. Kimbrel stands fourth all-time in career saves with 439, needing 40 more to pass Lee Smith for third. The Baltimore right-hander has been nearly untouchable since May 10, firing a 0.45 ERA, 0.25 WHIP and 29:5 K:BB across 20 innings while securing 14 saves. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:55 pm
    • Craig Kimbrel saves 22nd game vs. Athletics
Craig Kimbrel struck out two while picking up a save Friday against the Athletics.

Advice: Kimbrel didn’t allow a hit and needed just 10 pitches — seven of them strikes — to get through the Oakland lineup. There have been a few blips for the right-hander, but this was a reminder that there’s been more good than bad in his time as the Baltimore stopper. It’s the 22nd save of the year, and his ERA is now a very solid 2.16 on the 2024 campaign. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:15 pm
    • Blows save, earns win
Helsley (3-3) earned the win and blew a save against the Nationals on Friday, allowing one unearned run on two hits and a walk with no strikeouts over two innings.

Advice: Helsley was summoned to protect a 6-5 lead in the 10th inning but allowed the automatic runner to score. He was brought back out with another one-run lead in the eleventh and was able to secure the win in his first multi-inning effort of the season. On the year, the closer leads the league with 31 saves and owns a 2.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB over 41 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:12 pm
    • Kenley Jansen nails down 17th save
Kenley Jansen kept the Yankees off the board in the 10th inning to secure the save on Friday night.

Advice: Jansen was tasked with facing Juan Soto and Aaron Judge up two runs in the 10th inning and didn’t allow anyone to score. He slammed the door in what was a dramatic win for his Red Sox. Jansen hasn’t allowed an earned run since June 12th and hasn’t blown a save since April 16th. Take that, father time. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:07 pm
    • Spencer Steer goes deep in Friday’s loss to Tigers
Spencer Steer went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI on Friday night as the Reds fell to the Tigers in the opening game of their three-game weekend series.

Advice: Steer got the Reds on the board in the fifth inning with a mammoth 425-foot (106.1 mph EV) solo shot off of Reese Olson. He also plated a run with an RBI single off of Jason Foley in the ninth inning and scored on Nick Martini’s RBI triple. With his two-hit attack, the dynamic 26-year-old is now slashing .242/.334/.427 with 12 homers, 56 RBI and 13 stolen bases on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:37 pm

    • Ryan Helsley blows save in 10th, grabs win in 11th
Ryan Helsey blew the save Friday against the Nationals despite not allowing an earned run. He also gave up two hits, an intentional walk, and didn’t strike a batter out across two innings.

Advice: A shortcoming of the Ghost Runner rule: Helsley entered a one-run game in the 10th inning, allowed the automatic runner to score from second base, and got tagged with a blown save. He did well to get out of a jam with runners on second and third with one out when Juan Yepez lined into an inning ending double play. He hung on for a 1-2-3 inning in the 11th inning and still managed to snag the win. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:26 pm
    • Drew Thorpe strikes out five in win over Marlins
Drew Thorpe was terrific in Friday night’s victory over the Marlins in Miami, surrendering just one run on three hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The rookie right-hander punched out five batters on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. He held the Marlins scoreless through the first six frames, but returned for the seventh where he allowed a one-out double to Dane Myers before turning the ball over to the bullpen — and he ultimately scored. Thorpe generated 10 swings and misses on 90 pitches on the night — nine of those on his changeup — while posting an underwhelming CSW of 21 percent. He’ll see if he can replicate this success as he carries a 3-1 record, 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and an 18/14 K/BB ratio (26 2/3 innings) into his final start of the first half on Wednesday against the Twins. • Jared Jones dealing with Grade 2 lat strain
The Pirates announced Friday that Jared Jones is dealing with a Grade 2 lat strain and will be shut down from throwing for the next two weeks.

Advice: The Pirates are tying to find ways to manage the 22-year-old right-hander’s workload this season, so this doesn’t change his overall outlook for the season all that much. He’ll be re-evaluated after the two weeks to determine the schedule for ramping him back up. Fantasy managers may want to plan on being without Jones for the entire month of July.
