    • Swipes bag in loss
Adames went 1-for-4 with one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Adames is up to 11 steals on the year, but he hadn't attempted one in his previous 21 games. In that span, he hit just .192 with three home runs, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored. The shortstop has endured another challenging campaign with a .234/.321/.402 slash line, 13 homers, 57 RBI and 46 runs scored over 89 contests, but his lackluster hitting hasn't cost him a starting role. • Clay Holmes blows save by giving up homer
Clay Holmes took his fifth blown save after giving up a game-tying two-run homer Friday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Holmes retired the first two batters he faced, but then a single and a homer ruined his night. The homer, a 405-foot blast from Masataka Yoshida, was just the second he’s allowed in 36 innings this season. He’s been stuck on 19 saves since June 9, and while that’s mostly the fault of his teammates, he has given up runs in five of his last seven appearances. Even though Holmes is almost certainly one of the game’s 15- or 20-best relievers, there is the chance that the Yankees will supplant him in the closer’s role at the trade deadline. • Paul Sewald blows save, doesn’t get out vs. Padres
Paul Sewald didn’t record an out while allowing three runs and blowing a save against the Padres on Friday.

Advice: Sewald is going through it as of late. After blowing a save Tuesday against the Dodgers, the right-hander was even worse Friday night while picking up his second blown save and second loss. He allowed a game-tying homer to Jurickson Profar, walked Jake Cronenworth, and gave up a two-run blast to Manny Machado. Sewald has gone through spurts like this before, but fantasy managers — outside of those have the luxury to put him on the bench until they see better results — should stick with Sewald. The Diamondbacks are going to do the same. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago
    • Takes second straight loss
Sewald (0-2) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk while failing to record an out, taking a blown save and the loss versus the Padres on Friday.

Advice: After a sterling start to the year, Sewald has fallen flat to begin July. He's allowed five runs over two appearances this month, resulting in a blown save and a loss in both instances. He's now at a 3.12 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB over 17.1 innings while converting 11 of his 13 save chances on the year. The Diamondbacks are already lagging behind in the wild-card race, and Sewald's newfound struggles won't help them make up ground. If he continues to falter, he may have to settle for being part of a closer committee with a new team if he's traded this month. Rotowire.com Today, 10:49 pm
    • Allows five runs in no-decision
Gray did not factor into the decision in Friday's 7-6 win against the Nationals, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk with six strikeouts over five innings.

Advice: Gray allowed a total of five runs over the first three innings and departed after five frames with a 5-3 deficit. He surrendered eight hard hits and now carries a 5.09 ERA in road starts compared to a 1.90 mark at home . On the season, the 34-year-old owns a 3.30 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 115:24 K:BB over 92.2 innings. He lines up for a home matchup against the Royals next week. Rotowire.com Today, 8:08 pm

    • Clay Holmes blows save against Red Sox
Clay Holmes allowed two home runs on two hits in a blown save on Friday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Holmes pushed the Red Sox to their final strike before Masataka Yoshida sent a sinker deep into the right field seats. The home run was just the second Holmes has allowed this season, matching his total from last season. It was also his fifth blown save in what’s been an up-and-down season so far. • Max Fried can’t stop Phillies’ bats
Max Fried allowed 11 hits and five earned runs in six innings of work on Friday against the Phillies. He struck out four and walked one in a loss.

Advice: This was a pivotal game for the Braves as they try to claw their way back into the NL East race and Fried simply did not have it. He lived in the heart of the zone and the Phillies made him pay time and time again. They had base runners in five out of six innings and looked incredibly comfortable in the box all night. Fried was fortunate to get through this start with only five earned runs. Rotoworld Today, 7:48 pm

    • Coughs up five runs
Fried (7-4) allowed five runs on 11 hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Phillies.

Advice: Fried worked through three scoreless frames before beginning to unravel. He gave up three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth. Of the five runs he allowed, four came via a pair of two-run shots from Trea Turner. Fried had given up just three runs over his previous three starts but saw his season ERA jump from 2.91 to 3.18 after Friday's hiccup. His next start is lined up to be in Arizona. • Sonny Gray hit hard by Nationals
Sonny Gray allowed eight hits and five runs in five innings of work against the Nationals on Friday. He struck out six and walked one in a no-decision.

Advice: It was a very humid night in our nation’s capital and you could see the sweat pouring off Gray in his gray jersey. Clearly uncomfortable, he also could not find a way through lefties CJ Abrams, Jesse Winker, and Luis García Jr. They all tagged him for at least one extra-base hit while Winker and García had five combined hard-hit balls off Gray. He struggles with lefties relative to righties (.319 wOBA vs. L, .210 wOBA vs. R) mostly because his sweeper is less effective against opposite-handed batters. He tried to combat that with more curveballs, but it wasn’t enough. Rotoworld Today, 7:24 pm
