      Advice: Severino got off to a rough start, coughing up three runs in the first inning. He gave up one more over the next four frames before Eugenio Suarez knocked him out of the game with a solo shot in the sixth inning. Severino still earned his first win since April 17 in the chaotic 10-9 contest. He ends May with a subpar 4.91 ERA and 23:16 K:BB through 29 frames.       Hicks (4-2) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 5.1 innings, taking the loss versus the Yankees on Friday.

      Advice: Aaron Judge did most of the damage against Hicks, taking him deep for a three-run home run in the third inning and a solo shot in the sixth. The five runs allowed were the most Hicks has given up in a start this season, though it was a positive to see him issue no walks for the fourth time in 12 outings. Homers are becoming a problem for the right-hander -- he's allowed five of them over his last four starts after giving up just one across his first eight outings.       Jordan Hicks gave up eight hits and five runs — four earned — in 5 1/3 innings while picking up a loss to the Giants on Friday.

      Advice: When Hicks wasn’t pitching to Aaron Judge, things went ok. Unfortunately, he pitched to Aaron Judge a few times, and he gave up two homers to the mountain of a slugger. Hicks did give up eight hits in this contest, so it wasn’t just Aaron Judge, but Aaron Judge did most of the damage. This blurb is just an excuse to talk more about Aaron Judge.       Advice: Lopez worked around some trouble throughout the contest and turned in one of his best starts of the year. He recorded a season-high eight strikeouts with 16 whiffs, including nine with his slider. It was the first time he recorded more than five punchouts in a start since April 30.       Reynaldo López limited the A’s to one run in six innings and struck out eight in Atlanta’s 4-2 victory Friday.

      Advice: Another quality start moves him to 3-2 with a 1.73 ERA. That López has had a very light schedule has played some role in his success to date. His 10 starts have seen him face none of the league’s top five offenses by OPS yet each of the bottom four (the Mariners, Pirates, Marlins and White Sox).       Luis Severino pitched 5 ⅓ innings on Friday against the Diamondbacks and four earned runs with four strikeouts and one walk in a win.

      Advice: Seeing the win is nice, but Severino wasn’t his best on Friday. His velocity was down a tick across the board as the Diamondbacks made plenty of hard contact. Yet, Severino didn’t allow an extra-base hit until the Eugenio Suárez home run that chased him from the game. Keep an eye on whether or not that velocity levels out in his next start.       Lopez won't start Thursday's game against the Nationals, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Lopez pitched on four days of rest for the second time all season Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) in 4.2 innings -- his shortest start of the season. Rather than sending him to the mound after a traditional four-day rest period again, Atlanta will push his next start back and give the ball to Ray Kerr to close out its current series against Washington. The team hasn't yet announced when Lopez's next start will come, though it's possible he simply moves back a day to start Friday's series opener against the Athletics.       Ober (5-3) took the loss Wednesday versus the Royals, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking none over five innings.

      Advice: Ober gave up hard contact -- Nelson Velazquez hit two home runs and Salvador Perez added a solo shot and an RBI double. This was the first time since his disastrous season debut that Ober allowed multiple homers, though he has yielded seven long balls over his last six starts. He's at a 4.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 58:12 K:BB through 57 innings over 11 starts this season. Ober's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Yankees.       Bailey Ober struggled against the Royals allowing nine hits, three homers, and six earned runs across five innings in a loss. He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.

      Advice: Nelson Velázquez took Ober deep twice on nearly identical belt-high pitches. Salvador Perez did the same on another pitch that was practically down the middle. Ober also imploded against the Royals in his first start of the year allowing eight earned runs in just 1 1/3 innings.
