    • Nolan Arenado goes 2-for-4, homers in loss
Nolan Arenado went 2-for-4 with a homer in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Royals.

Advice: Arenado’s xwOBA hasn’t budged, but he does have 10 hits in his last five games. Every time Arenado has had a stretch like this, it’s resulted in many people saying “he’s back,” and every time, it seems to be followed by a 2-for-20 stretch. There’s just nothing very encouraging in his exit velocity numbers, but there is the fact that Arenado doesn’t need great exit velocity to do what he does best; he just needs to yank 360-foot flyballs down the line. • On bench Wednesday
Kjerstad is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Kjerstad had started both of the past two days while the Orioles faced left-handed starting pitchers, but he'll take a seat Wednesday with southpaw Shota Imanaga on the hill for the Cubs. Austin Hays will spell Kjerstad in left field. Rotowire.com Today, 12:27 pm
    • Not in Wednesday's lineup
Caballero is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Caballero had started five of the previous six contests, but he will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. Taylor Walls and Richie Palacios will form the Rays' double-play combination Wednesday. Rotowire.com Today, 11:56 am

    • Out against left-hander
Hamilton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Jamie Westbrook and Ceddanne Rafaela will serve as the Red Sox's starters in the middle infield while the lefty-hitting Hamilton sits against southpaw JP Sears. Hamilton should continue to serve as Boston's primary option at second base against right-handers with Enmanuel Valdez having been optioned to Triple-A Worcester. Rotowire.com Today, 11:39 am

    • Adds 15th homer
Paredes went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Paredes provided the key blast in the first inning Tuesday, taking Carlos Rodon deep for a three-run shot, putting the Rays ahead 4-1 early. It's the fourth homer in 12 games for the third baseman, though he's gone just 9-for-44 (.205) in that span. Overall, Paredes is batting .267 with a .830 OPS, 15 homers, 50 RBI and 35 runs scored through 86 games this season. Rotowire.com Today, 7:10 am

    • Secures ninth save
Diaz struck out the only batter he faced Tuesday to record his ninth save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Nationals.

Advice: The Mets took a 7-2 lead into the ninth inning, but Reed Garrett made a mess of things and forced manager Carlos Mendoza to turn to his closer with two outs and a runner on first base. Diaz actually allowed the inherited runner to score after Jacob Young took second on defensive indifference and then raced around the bases on a wild pitch, but the right-hander fanned CJ Abrams to end the game. Diaz has gone six straight appearances since returning from his suspension without having a run charged to his own ledger, collecting two wins and four saves during that stretch with a 6:1 K:BB. • Hit hard in loss to Mets
Irvin (7-7) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up six runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings as the Nationals fell 7-5 to the Mets. He struck out two.

Advice: The right-hander dominated the Mets on July 4, but the Nats' NL East rivals got some revenge in the rematch, with a three-run homer by Brandon Nimmo in the second inning and a two-run blast by Francisco Lindor in the sixth accounting for most of the damage off Irvin. He hadn't served up multiple homers in a start since May 22, while the six runs allowed tied his season high. Irvin will take a 3.13 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 96:26 K:BB through 112 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road in Milwaukee this weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 6:00 am

    • Two-run homer Tuesday
Higashioka went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Higashioka tacked on a two-run blast in the eighth to cut the deficit to 7-3 for his only hit of the evening. Though he's not an everyday player, Higashioka has been swinging the bat well when in the lineup of late, slashing .342/.375/.842 with six homers, 17 RBI and eight runs scored in 40 plate appearances over his last 11 games. He'll continue to split time behind the dish with Luis Campusano despite Higashioka currently swinging a much hotter bat. Rotowire.com Today, 5:55 am
    • Yields seven runs in loss
Rea (8-3) allowed seven runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Pirates.

Advice: Rea had his best start of the year last Wednesday at Colorado, turning in seven shutout innings, but he followed it up with a season-high seven runs against this time. The right-hander's lack of consistency is a little concerning, though this was just the second time in his last eight appearances that he's given up more than three runs. For the season, Rea is sporting a 3.81 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 69:30 K:BB through 99.1 innings over 18 appearances (16 starts). He's tentatively projected for a home start versus the Nationals in his next outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:05 pm
