      Houck (7-6) took the loss Saturday, coughing up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over 4.1 innings as the Red Sox were routed 11-1 by the Padres. He struck out six.

      Advice: Manny Machado took him deep twice, while Jackson Merrill also chipped in a long ball. Houck had served up only two homers all season coming into Saturday, and even with this performance, the right-hander sports a 2.67 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 105:19 K:BB through 107.2 innings on the season.       Nola (9-4) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on six hits over 6.2 innings in a 3-2 loss to the Marlins. He struck out nine without walking a batter.

      Advice: The veteran right-hander delivered his third straight quality start and 12th of the season on 100 pitches (71 strikes), but Nola let a win slip through his fingers when he served up back-to-back doubles with two outs in the seventh inning, with both coming around to score the final runs of the game. Nola took his first loss since May 8, and he'll carry a 3.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 99:25 K:BB through 107.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Atlanta.       Hader struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Mets.

      Advice: The Astros' late comeback resulted in a save chance, and Hader converted with ease. He's picked up five saves over 11 outings in June while surrendering four runs and posting a 16:1 K:BB across 10.2 innings for the month. Overall, he's 12-for-13 in save chances with a 3.68 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 59:11 K:BB through 36.2 innings this season, with the Astros' mediocre play being the main reason for his reduced saves total, though the team is trending up by going 9-2 over the last two weeks.       Josh Hader tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Mets on Saturday.

      Tanner Houck gave up eight runs — seven earned — over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Padres on Saturday.

      Advice: Houck has been fantastic for the overwhelming majority of 2024. There wasn’t anything fantastic about this outing, other than he gave reason for San Diego hitters to have some fun. The right-hander gave up nine hits with one walk, and while he was able to at least add four punchouts, they don’t compensate for giving up three homers. Houck hadn’t allowed more than three runs since April 12, so it’s fair to write this one off as a “pobody’s nerfect.” He’s scheduled to face the Yankees on Friday, and he’ll try and lower an ERA that jumped from 2.18 to 2.67 after this clunker.     • Aaron Nola strikes out nine in loss Saturday
      Aaron Nola allowed three runs with nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.

      Advice: A solo homer by Nick Gordon in the second inning was the only run Nola had allowed going into the seventh. He stayed in just a bit too long as two doubles and a base hit would bring two more runs in to score for the Marlins, costing Nola the chance for the win. Still, he struck out nine batters with no walks in the solid outing. The 31-year-old right-hander will take a 3.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 99/25 K/BB ratio across 107 2/3 innings into a start against the Braves in Atlanta on Friday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:47 pm

      Rutschman (hand) is starting at catcher and batting second Saturday against the Rangers.

      Advice: Rutschman was given a day off Friday after he played through a right hand injury Thursday, and he seems to be feeling better ahead of Saturday's contest.       Advice: The 26-year-old backstop sat out Friday’s game due to soreness in his right hand, but he’s right back out there behind the dish to catch Cade Povich on Saturday night.       Romano was shut down from throwing after experiencing discomfort in his right elbow Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

      Advice: It's the second time Romano has been shut down from throwing since he landed on the injured list June 1. Manager John Schneider said Saturday that Romano will get an evaluation on his right elbow July 2, which should give clarity on the next steps for the 31-year-old closer, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
