    • Back from IL, leading off Friday
Kwan (hamstring) was reinstated from the injured list and is starting in left field and batting leadoff Friday against the Nationals, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 26-year-old has been sidelined nearly four weeks by a strained left hamstring, but he's back with the Guardians after a four-game rehab stint in the minors. Kwan was producing as one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball prior to the injury with three homers, three steals and a .353/.407/.496 slash line in 32 games. • Guardians activate Steven Kwan for Friday return
Guardians activated OF Steven Kwan from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Kwan has been on the injured list since May 6 recovering from a hamstring strain. He was hitting a sublime .353 with three home runs in 32 games before the injury. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:35 am

    • On verge of return
Kwan (hamstring) went 1-for-2 with an RBI, two walks, three runs scored and a stolen base in a rehab game with Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Advice: After two games with High-A Lake County, Kwan moved his rehab to Columbus earlier this week. He was on base three times Thursday in his second game with the Guardians' top minor-league affiliate and added a steal for good measure, showing good confidence in his hamstring. The 26-year-old appears poised to return to the major-league lineup in the near future, possibly as soon as Friday against Washington, and will look to pick up where he left off before going down after posting a .353/.407/.496 slash line over his first 32 games this season. • Hitting off tee
Yoshida (thumb) began swinging off a tee Thursday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: As noted Wednesday, manager Alex Cora said Yoshida will wear a guard on the thumb to protect the area of the injury. His return from the injured list is dependent on how Yoshida feels as he progresses. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:11 am

    • Masataka Yoshida (thumb) starts hitting progression
Masataka Yoshida (thumb) began taking swings off a tee earlier this week.

Advice: Yoshida was able to avoid surgery on his left thumb, but has been completely shut down from hitting for the last few weeks. The 30-year-old is going to need plenty of time to ramp-up his hitting progression, so fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back for at least a few weeks, if not longer. • Sitting out against lefty
Lowe is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Lowe will head to the bench for the series finale while the Athletics bring southpaw Hogan Harris to the hill. Amed Rosario will fill in at second base in place of Lowe, who is slashing just .174/.296/.391 in eight games since being reinstated from the 10-day injured list May 20. • To begin swinging bat
Yoshida (thumb) is set to begin swinging a bat in the upcoming days, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: This is the first real sign that Yoshida is working his way back to playing again. He was placed on the injured list May 1 and spent most of the month shut down from baseball activities. When he does begin swinging, Yoshida will wear a hand guard over the injured thumb. • Logs ninth steal
Fraley went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Fraley swiped his ninth base of the season while extending a hit streak to five games (6-for-19). He's on pace for a second consecutive 20-steal season but has just seven extra-base hits in 134 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Thursday, 5:22 am

    • Stung by rough second inning
Crawford (2-4) took the loss against Baltimore on Wednesday, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters over six innings.

Advice: Crawford was excellent outside of the second inning -- he gave up five runs on three hits, a walk and a hit batter in that frame, with the big blow being a grand slam by Gunnar Henderson. The right-hander did hold the Orioles scoreless on one hit the rest of the way, but the damage was too much to overcome against Baltimore starter Corbin Burnes. Crawford has surrendered 11 runs over 10.1 innings across his past two starts, pushing his season ERA to 3.29. It sat at 2.17 prior to the two-game downturn. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:29 pm
