      José Abreu hit his second homer Friday off the Angels’ Roansy Contreras.

      Advice: Abreu is definitely swinging the bat better now than he was before he was sent to the minors, but that bar is so low it might as well be underground. Both of his homers have come since his return, a period that’s seen him go 5-for-27 with an 8/1 K/BB. We’re still pretty skeptical that he belongs in the majors at this point.       Abreu went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-1 win over the Angels.

      Advice: Abreu has gone a modest 3-for-17 over six games in June, but two of those hits have been homers. The first baseman has made limited progress at the plate since he was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land, but he's seeing steady playing time anyway.       Advice: The first baseman opened the scoring by launching a cutter from Cade Povich over the right-field fence in the third inning.       Vladimir Guerrero popped a three-run homer Thursday to help the Blue Jays to a win over the Orioles.

      Advice: Vladdy Jr. gave Cade Povich a rude introduction during Povich’s MLB debut with a three-run blast in the third. The 25-year-old also drew a walk and singled. Guerrero Jr. has made loads of hard contact and certainly has been a contributor in the average category with a .295 RBI, but it’s great to see the infielder start to drive the baseball on a more consistent basis as of late.       Burger said that he's not dealing with any soreness or pain in his intercostal muscle, but he's out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays as a matter of caution, Noah Berger of ElExtraBase.com reports.

      Advice: Burger was on the injured list from April 15 through May 6 with a left intercostal strain, and he appeared to tweak the muscle on a swing during Tuesday's 9-5 loss. He was able to stay in the game, and Burger's condition hasn't seemed to have taken a turn for the worse heading into Wednesday's series finale. However, with a team off day Thursday, both Burger and manager Skip Schumaker agreed that it was for the best for the third baseman to get a two-day break by exiting the lineup Wednesday. Guerrero is beginning to flash a little more power -- over his last 11 games, he has three doubles and two of his six homers on the year -- but he's been making plenty of hard contact, slashing .367/.452/.495 since the beginning of May with 16 RBI and 16 runs in 28 contests.
