  • Reid Detmers allows seven runs in Triple-A debut
    Reid Detmers allowed seven runs over five innings on Friday for Triple-A Salt Lake.

    Advice: Yikes. The positive takeaway here is that Detmers recorded eight strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 24-year-old talented southpaw was jettisoned to the minors earlier this month to give him some space to work on things. Simply put, he remains a work in progress. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago
     
  • Bobby Miller averages 97.4 mph on Friday at AAA
    Bobby Miller (shoulder) allowed two runs (one earned) over four innings on Friday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

    Advice: The positive news here for fantasy managers is that Miller averaged 97.4 mph on his four-seam fastball in this one and was able to generate nine swinging strikes, nearly all of them on his secondary offerings. He struck out two and also issued a pair of walks, needing 85 pitches (50 strikes) to get through four-plus frames.   • Escapes with 13th save
    Diaz gave up a run on a hit and a walk in the ninth inning Friday, recording his 13th save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Cubs. He struck out one.

    Advice: The right-hander made things difficult once again, issuing a free pass with two outs before a Miguel Amaya double brought the tying run to the plate. Diaz was able to strike out Patrick Wisdom to end the game, however. Diaz has walked a batter in four straight appearances, but he's successfully converted six straight save chances. On the season, he carries a rough 5.55 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 27:18 K:BB through 24.1 innings, but for now the Reds are willing to let him work through his control issues.   • Fans seven in sixth win
    Lodolo (6-2) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings in a 3-2 victory over the Cubs. He struck out seven.

    Advice: The left-hander delivered his second straight quality start and fourth of the season on 99 pitches (61 strikes), and the only real mistake Lodolo made resulted in a Dansby Swanson solo shot in the sixth inning. The seven Ks were the most Lodolo has managed in three starts since returning from a groin strain, but he's won all three of those outings with a 2.08 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next week against the Guardians. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago
     
  • Stuck with loss in quality start
    Steele (0-3) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings as the Cubs were downed 3-2 by the Reds. He struck out seven.

    Advice: The southpaw pitched well in his second quality start of the season, generating 30 called or swinging strikes among his 90 pitches, but a lack of run support kept him out of the win column once again. Steele appears to be rounding into form after missing all of April with a hamstring strain, and over his last three starts he sports a 1.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through 19 innings.     Poteet came away with a no-decision in Friday's 2-1 extra-innings loss to the Dodgers, allowing two hits and three walks over 4.2 scoreless innings. He struck out one.

    Advice: The 29-year-old right-hander kept a dangerous offense off the board, but he needed 84 pitches (50 strikes) to record only 14 outs, and the Yankees' bullpen eventually faltered in the 11th inning. Poteet has a 1.72 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB through 15.2 innings over his three big-league starts this season, but with Gerrit Cole (elbow) set to make his second rehab start Sunday, his time in the New York rotation is running short.     Ramirez recorded his first save of the season in Friday's 2-1 win over the Yankees, giving up one unearned run on one hit in the 11th inning. He struck out two.

    Advice: The journeyman right-hander is already on his third team of 2024, but with Evan Phillips having thrown 31 pitches the night before and both Daniel Hudson and Blake Treinen having been deployed earlier in Friday's contest, Ramirez got the call in a high-leverage spot and delivered. He did allow the phantom runner to score on a one-out single by Aaron Judge, but Ramirez then struck out Giancarlo Stanton before Anthony Rizzo popped out to end the game. In nine innings for the Dodgers, the 29-year-old has a solid 3.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB, but he's highly unlikely to become a regular part of the late-inning mix.     Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander was brilliant in his longest scoreless outing in MLB so far, generating 33 called or swinging strikes among his season-high 106 pitches, but neither offense was able to put runs on the board until the 11th inning.     Civale (2-5) took the loss Friday, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings as the Rays fell 6-3 to the Orioles. He struck out eight.

    Advice: The right-hander got taken deep by Anthony Santander in the second inning and Ryan Mountcastle in the fifth, just the second time this season Civale has served up multiple homers. The eight strikeouts did tie his season high, helping to salvage some fantasy value, but he's gone 10 straight starts without recording a win, going 0-4 over that stretch with a 6.66 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 50:15 K:BB through 50 innings.
