    • Nightengale: Rival execs say Alonso is staying put
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, rival team execs believe it’s more likely that Pete Alonso is not traded at the deadline.

Advice: Nightengale mentioned that “rival teams who have expressed interest” in Alonso are “convinced” he will “definitely stay put as long as the Mets are within five games of the wild-card race.” As of now, the Mets are just two games back and are 12-4 over their last 16 games. If the Mets do keep Alonso beyond the trade deadline, they will need to then decide how badly they want to extend him, but it would take one of the biggest power bats off the trade block this season. • Report: White Sox intend to trade Garrett Crochet
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported that “the White Sox intend to trade [Garrett Crochet] by the July 30 trade deadline.”

Advice: According to Nightengale, the White Sox “quietly engaged in brief contract extension talks” with Crochet,” but there is “no optimism towards reaching an agreement,” so the team is now intent on moving him. As of now, the White Sox have allegedly had 15 teams call to express interest in Crochet, who is making just $800,000 and is under team control through 2026. Some potential concerns surrounding the left-hander are just how much he’ll pitch over the summer after having already thrown 21 more innings than his entire career total heading into this season. There are some additional concerns about whether “a team acquiring Crochet may have to offer a contract extension for him to lift those innings restrictions in the second half because of the potential of an injury risk.” We should get more clarity on Crochet’s market over the next couple of weeks, but he seems like a strong bet to be dealt. • Making next start Tuesday
Birdsong is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday in Atlanta, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The banged-up Giants have only two members of their Opening Day rotation (Logan Webb and Jordan Hicks) available at the moment, so San Francisco should have a spot available for Birdsong until at least three of Kyle Harrison (ankle), Blake Snell (groin), Alex Cobb (hip), Robbie Ray (elbow) and Keaton Winn (elbow) come back from the injured list. After being expedited to the big leagues last week following just two starts at Triple-A Sacramento, Birdsong demonstrated shaky command in his MLB debut against the Cubs on Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. On a positive note, Birdsong induced nine swings and misses and finished with five punchouts. His long-term outlook remains promising, but Birdsong shapes up as a risky fantasy option heading into what will likely be a two-start week. After facing off against Atlanta, the 23-year-old right-hander lines up for another turn Sunday in Cleveland. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago
    • Tagged for three runs in relief
Roupp worked 2.2 innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's 10-4 win over the Dodgers, giving up three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three.

Advice: Heading into Sunday, Roupp had been residing on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list, but he had made three rehab appearances in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Rather than having him slot back into the Sacramento rotation Sunday, the Giants instead called him up from the minors to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen. Roupp ended up piggybacking starter Spencer Bivens, who tossed five innings of one-run ball before leaving the game. With the rotation having been hit hard by injuries lately, the Giants could have two openings during the upcoming week, but Bivens pitched well enough to earn one of those spots. Roupp could be an option for the other spot if Kyle Harrison (ankle) isn't ready to return from the 15-day injured list by the weekend. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago
    • Reid Detmers strikes out 11 in Triple-A start
Reid Detmers allowed three runs on four hits in six innings while striking out 11 for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

Advice: Detmers now has 21 strikeouts in his last two games, which is the good news. The bad news is that he has allowed eight runs in 12 innings over those two starts. The swing-and-miss is nice to see, but Detmers will undoubtedly need to do more to incentivize the Angels to call him back up. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago
    • Outrighted to Triple-A
The Giants outrighted Burgos to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Burgos made just one appearance for San Francisco before losing his place on its 40-man roster. He will stick around in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Rotowire.com 58 minutes ago
    • Brewers designate Owen Miller for assignment
Brewers designated INF/OF Owen Miller for assignment.

Advice: With Garrett Mitchell coming off the 60-day IL, the Brewers needed an extra spot on the 40-man roster, so they decided to move on from Miller, who had been sent to Triple-A at the end of May. Miller had started the year strong for Milwaukee but is hitting just .185 on the season with a 39 percent strikeout rate. He’ll hope to get a shot with another organization. Rotoworld 59 minutes ago

    • Sent outright to Triple-A
The Giants outrighted Brooks to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Brooks passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. The first baseman went 3-for-25 at the plate during his time with the Giants before he was moved off the 40-man roster. Rotowire.com 59 minutes ago
    • Brewers send Tyler Black to minors (again)
Brewers optioned INF Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Black got his second chance with the Brewers this season but rarely played, going 3-for-11 and sitting this entire week before being demoted to make room for Garrett Mitchell to come off the IL. Black has the tolls to be a useful fantasy player, but he might not get the opportunity this season. Rotoworld Today, 11:31 am
